    cough medicine for dogs???

I knew this was going to happen, it's just part of bringing a new dog into the house.
Jada has been coughing, and was put on an antibiotic at her first vet exam in case of kennel cough.
I heard Abbey cough once, Kito has been sneezing (he has to be different), and Riley just started coughing. Riley went to the vet today to get his stitches out (which healed very well), and she heard the cough--she gave him an antibiotic, and said we could give him Robitussin (sp?) for kids.
I did read on a website that I could give him that before.
Has anyone ever tried that or heard of it???

PS--I know they all need to be separated, and not share toys, water dishes, etc.

We gave Cincy Robitussen when she had kennel couch, until we got Tussigon from the vet. We gave her the child's dose and it really seemed to help.

The other thing that helped her, was running a vaporizer to add some moisture to the air.

    Thanks for the reply!!

Tussigon may very well be what our vet gave us for Riley--I can never read her handwriting, and my husband took Riley in today because I had to work. I did read her note that was with it though, saying to give a child's portion of Robitussin.

I did read about the vaporizer too, we don't have one.

One thing that I really think is aggravating it, is them sleeping in the bedroom with the air conditioner on--they are at their worst in the morning.

    1) Turn on the Shower inna baffroom -
super hot; and don't turn on the fan!

    2) BIG Pot of Water cooking on the stove -
but keep a *close* eye on it -
so it doesn't boil dry and start a fire!

Oh boy this brings back memories! Back in January when I brought Ripley home he unfortunately was coming down with kennel cough (starting coughing probably the day after he got here!) which he generously *shared* with Bella. I remember all of the coughing and hacking that they both did all night long, often with it ending up with one or the other spitting up little bits of foamy stuff (sorry for the graphic description) all over the place. I was only given antibiotics for them and fortunately the worst was over in a few days. Good luck! It's no fun. I remember it all too well!

I woke up this morning to.........

silence!!! No one was coughing or hacking!! I gave both Jada and Riley a little bit of Robitussin before bed last night, and it seems to have helped!! Dosing them was no fun, but it least it sems to make them more comfortable!!!!
Abbey and Kito aren't sick, so they don't need anything!!!

The coughing is such an awful sound--no one at work believes me that the dogs actually cough--they all think I'm nuts (it was the fourth dog that did that though, not the coughing thing, lol).

Thanks for everyone's well wishes--my babies all seem to be getting healthier--as long as I can keep away this virus that seems to be going around

    Cough Medicine for dogs

I haven't really heard of Robitusson for kennel cough. But if it works until you can get the pup to the vet. I would be willing to try it. I can say I have used Benedryl for itchy skin and allergy type symptons on my chihuahuas. Works great. Especially during the pollen season.

Good Luck with the kennel cough.
