    Lab Rescue Information

I received this email tonight, from PAWS, our local rescue and adoption center (I am on their volunteer list, that's why I got it)

    Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you know that we are trying to find foster
    homes
for a 7yr old golden retriever and a 7 yr old black lab. Both are full
blooded. Apparently both dogs are good with children, other dogs &
cats. The former owner died, & the person who has them will have them
    put
down this week if other homes are not found. Do any of you have room
    for
either or both of these dogs?

If you can help or you know of someone that would meet PAWS foster
    home
criteria (animals are regularly vetted & altered, etc.) please let me
    or BJ
know ASAP. BJ's email is [email protected]

    Thanks!
    Cathy Kassab
    PAWS Dog Co-Coordinator (234-0363)

    Yikes

This makes me sad, and mad--I don't know why they don't just contact a labrador rescue group
I want to email her back, however there is no way I can foster the dogs right now--I'm sure they are very upset due to the passing of their owner, and Kito is NOT what they need. Hubby wasn't too keen on the idea either
If someone could give me some addresses or phone numbers for Lab Rescues, I would really appreciate it.
Sandra, I know you are involved with Lab rescue, do you know of any in my area??? (Pennsylvania)

    Thank you.

I work with North East All Retriever Rescue. www.nearr.com We place ALL types of Retrievers and Retreiver mixes, but our territory is limited to New England. We might be able to place your dogs with our group (a very wonderful one, I might add!) but that would require the family coming up at least to CT for temperament evaluation. Check out our website. Our dogs are very lovingly cared for in experienced Retriever foster families until adoption. We also take GREAT care in placing each dog with the most appropriate family; we do extensive screening...it is NOT first come first serve. There are some great groups by you though I am not familiar with the names listed below. I would encourage the family, though, to make sure they do screened placements to assure the pups go to a responsible, commited, Retriever EXPERIENCED homes. Many think they want a Retreiver (so popular) but are not familiar with the energy level, exercise requirements of the breed. And if you can believe this, many families surrender them because they are irritated by the fact that they want to be with you everywhere/all the time! I too wish they would contact a Lab rescue group or Retriever group. We (nearr) would be able to place them together I'm going to contact our board members to try and get some info. fast about groups in the PA area. They have been known to work miracels. I REALLY would like to see these two kept together!!

Thank you so much for the information.
I received an email from her this morning, and the dogs are going to be taken care of.
Golden Retriever Rescue of Central PA is taking the golden, and someone has offered to foster the lab.
It's a shame they cannot be together though

Thank God they aren't going to be put down though.

If I get any more information about them, I will update.

Great News!! Although I also wish they could be placed together. Hopefully they will both get great homes to live out their remaining years.

    Thanks for the update.

I'm glad they will be saved!! That's the first order of priority, although it would be wonderful if they could stay together. Thank you so much for working hard to make sure they could be safe!
