    Dog Beds

    Dog Beds

There are many dog beds available now, but
    unfortunately,
many are extremely impractical and expensive. The
    most
important thing, after correct size, is that the bed
    be
easy to wash and dry. Your dog's bed should be
    washed at
least every time the dog is bathed, otherwise he'll
    smell
dirty again almost immediately. If you're dealing
    with skin
problems and/or parasites, the bed should be washed
    weekly.

Bed pillows come in junior, standard, queen, and
    king
sizes. One of these sizes is just right for many
    dogs.
There are plastic, zippered protective covers
    available
and, of course, pillow cases. The pillows are
    reversible,
washable, and inexpensive to replace. Wicker dog
    baskets
come in just about every size. The wicker will last
    through
many dogs and can be hosed off. The wicker and
    pillow
    combination is practical and attractive.

    Beds For Big Dogs

You can make a practical bed for your dog, no matter
    how
big she is, for a fraction of the cost of buying
    one. In
the bedding department of nearly any store that has
    one,
there is waffled foam rubber padding available. This
    same
product is used in orthopedic dog beds and in
    hospitals to
prevent bedsores. It's sometimes called an egg crate
mattress. The twin bed size should be large enough
    for any
dog. It can be cut with scissors to any size or
    shape. You
can use it in single or double thickness. A pillow
case-type cover or a zippered one can be made out of
    any
durable, washable fabric. Make at least two. If you
    don't
sew, you can use iron-on Velcro in place of seams.
    You can
also make a waterproof mattress protector out of the
    pads
available in baby departments for use in cribs.

    great post!

a while back when i was tight on money (when isn't that!?) i made a dog bed for king. it was when i first got him. at first all i could get for him were some pillows off a couch that was on the curb. defintly not in a condition that i think anyone would have wanted, but good enough for what we'd be using them for. so, w/ scissors in hand i cut them to fit in his dog house. so that week i set to work on gathering materials to make his bed for him. i was talking to my grandmother and she had some extra material that she said she had bought, but turned out to be too thich to use. it was a jean type material. this became my sewing lesson. and i used poly fill. high quality. and i quilted the filling into place. i had so much fun making it. i want to make one for myself. now since we moved he's been using our sleeping bags. so he's nice and cozy and is more comfortable than we are. ah, the things we do for our dogs. lol.

Thanks for the information, Shai's Mom! Crow, that's great how you worked so hard on King's bed. It makes it mean more!

Daisy has two nice big dog beds, but of course she never uses them. Why sleep there when she can sleep in my bed?
