    Black Mouth Kerr?

A woman I work with is dog sitting this weekend for her friend's dog. The dog was dumped, as a puppy, malnutriotned, and looking bad. Ruby-Doo is now a healthly happy puppy.

When they found her, they guessed she was a Rodesian Ridgeback mix, but when the ferrier came out the other night, he took one look and said that is a Black-mouthed Kerr, which is a hunting dog.

I have never heard of such a breed and can't find anything on it. Has anyone ever heard of it, or know any internet links?

    Thanks!

I think it is spelled Black Mouth Cur. That should help your search. I don't know that its an official "breed" as much as a "type"...

Many thanks to Roxyluvsme13 & k9krazee for my great new siggy!!

Black mouthed curs are used for hunting . I have read a bit about them from my researching of catahoulas.

This is the UKC page that desribes the standard, and some history of the American black mouth cur. This is a good page too.

Did you know Old Yeller was a black-mouth cur? I just read that when I was looking up info on them.

    Thanks for the siggy, Lexi_Lover!
