Pit Bull attack...

I just now heard on the news while i was watching that a pit bull attacked 3 kids at a school. I think it was in Cali. Im not sure. But right when they said they shot and killed the animal i cried. I think they should atleast see how the dog was treated and the history of the dog first and see if there was something that had happend to the dog. I hate when people mis treat dogs and make them aggressive ..... It makes me sick to my stomach.... I hate people sometimes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im in so much anger right now so excuse me!

the dog should be put down if it attacked kids regardless of its history!!!!!! i think the media is digging for dog related incidents after the presa attack in S.F. its become the new media fad.

I agree, if the dog is attacking children we can't have it around, but I know it's not its fault and that makes me sick too. I hope the owners of the dog are getting in trouble because they are at fault for the injuries of three children and the death of a dog.

It makes me mad that the owners could have let the dog get so aggressive. I hope people dont make Pit Bull stereotypes from this!

This is so sad and I understand your anger totally.
It's so sad that children have been terribly hurt and it's not just the physical pain they and their families will have to deal with.
It's sad that people have seen the dog as a tool to breed an agressive, unpredictable animal.
It's sad that such a dog has then had an upbringing or environment that did nothing to change these tendencies, or, even worse, encouraged them.
It's sad that the owners of this dog are unlikely to ever be found.
It's sad that they will probably wait for the dust to settle and get another dog to bring up the same way.
It's sad that as a dog loving community we sometimes put our own freedom above the good of the dog as a species and the community we live in as a whole..... the constantly barking dog down the road isn't just a pain, it's barking for a reason.
It's fantastic that we have a place like this, where everyone, without exception, puts the needs of their animals first - what a shame we can't get the rest of the dog owners here too!!

I tell you what, I'm a little embarrased to consider myself a new citizen here in CA with all of the dog attacks all around me. The pit bull attack was in San Jose, and the owner of the dog was a 19 year old. Now what on earth is a 19 year old doing with such a vicious dog? And why? I agree with all of you that it just makes me sick to my stomach that people have to make the animals this way. Apparently, the police arrived on the scene and tried to subdue the dog first, with pepper spray, and when that didn't work and the dog started lunging for them, they had to shoot 5 times before it brought the dog down. Now, how on earth can someone make a dog so vicious(and why was this dog around little kids)??!! I hate that people do that. This person is likely to be criminally charged. There was also another Rottweiler attack in San Fran as well....Ugh!!!!

A girl who I presently work with used to be a Veterinary Technician. She told me that she was once in the examining room with the doctor when the dog he was examining knocked him down and went for his throat! The owners of this dog had just gotten him from a shelter. The vet had quite a hard time subduing this animal, but when he finally had things under control he suggested to the family to euthanize the dog the family has 3 small children and the dog's history was questionable. The people said no and left his office in a huff. I realize that this dog's past owners most likely contributed to his behavior, but what I couldn't understand was this family is keeping a dog capable of what they just witnessed!

Oh thats sad! i just recently saw a news special where 2 boxers attacked a woman who was gardening in her backyard. They had to Put the male dog to sleep but the female boxer is still alive but its locked up at an animal shelter! The owners of the boxers told the police that the woman must have provoked the attack. I felt bad for the woman and the dogs because first of all who would raise there dogs to be that mean. i Love my Puppies and i would never let them get that way!!

I just read in my local paper that a pit bull attacked and killed a poodle on Friday. It broke into the screened in porch where the dog was. There was a 2 yr. old playing on the porch, but fortunately the dog was subdued before it attacked the child. There is so much publicity right now surrounding these attacks and people's nerves are on edge. They closed the article in the paper by saying "unfortunately these dogs continue to wind up in the hands of those least able to know what to do with them." Some cities have enacted legislation about owning them. What a dilemma.

This really is becoming a problem in our society. I don't understand why people have to make dogs so vicious. San Francisco, the animal city, has now enacted a law that all large dogs (no matter how nice they are) are to be muzzled in public...this is because of all the attacks around here lately.

That is sad, but for a society where the only real contact or news of a doggy nature for many people is the press it is a natural reaction. People know about guide dogs (seeing eye dogs), police dogs and gaurd dogs. The rest is what the papers choose to report.
How about all you people with PAT dogs (what you call therapy dogs, I think) getting in touch with your local newspapers and inviting them to come on one of your visits? Tell them that this is an ordinary pet dog that is doing something extraordinary and it's really worth a look.

ok im about to go insane DONT EVEN SAY THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just got REALLY mad ... wow i guess i have way more then one enemy besides eminem in the world!!! Pit bulls are GREAT dogs and are better that any kind of breed. Its the stupid people theese days that treat them like doo doo and train them to fight. it is NOT i repeat NOT the dogs fault!

ok befor i end up blowing up im going to go calm down!

and i have a pit bull mix and he is better tha any dogs in the world he could be better than any lab any day!!!

OK...I'll put myself between you guys!! I'm a lab mom and lover who also adores pit bulls. And just to balance the above messages...Most of you know I work a few days a week in a boarding/training kennel. EVERY Pit Bull and Pit Bull mix boarded there is an absolute marshallow. Just today, I spent about an hour with an absolutely beautiful girl named Abby. She is 1 yr. old black lab/pit bull (x) and is the most precious angel. She was recently adopted from a shelter and has the sweetest, most submissive personality. Almost pitifully submissive. She was so frightened of all the dogs and barking. All she wanted to do was curl up next to you on the ground, get belly rubs and give kisses. Maybe we should say, "Whenever you see the OWNER of an aggressive pit bull, run and take cover. These dogs that attack are raised and bred to be aggressive. I do not believe that it is a "bad breed" that is the problem, but bad BREEDING! Retrievers are my first love, BUT incredibly, according to the most recent statistics, golden retrievers are the breed with the most reported incidences of dog bites! One of the most beloved family dogs of all time! Any dog has the capability of inflicting great bodily harm. To avoid such further tragedy, we all must play a part by continuing to promote good breeding practices, report any observed cases of abuse, (which includes reporting owners who TRAIN dogs to fight and be vicious) and approach every dog with respect and caution until he or she is known to us!

My sister-in-law has had her pit-bull/husky mix for about 14 years now. That dog is the sweetest dog you could ever meet. There is not a mean bone in his body! In all the 14 years that I've known him, I have never seen or heard about him acting even a little aggressive-nothing. I trusted him with my kids. Mitch is a sweetheart!

KayAnn, I just have to tell you that EVERY time I read one of your posts and look at that ADORABLE little pic. insert of Simba I smile from ear to ear! What a face! That expression just speaks volumes ...Any guardian of a dog knows what I mean; I think!
