    To Pam & Bella

Pam.. awhile ago I emailed you and told you a little about that black standard poodle named Belle who is in the shelter. Unfortunately she has not been adopted yet but I decided to spend a lot of extra time with her today and I had the BEST time. I haven't been around many standard poodles, especially not for extended periods of time. She was full of tricks! Every time I sat on the floor, she'd barrel me over flat on my back and lick my face. Every single time I gave the 'sit' command, her little butt hit the floor so fast and she looked at me with wild excitement and wiggled and waggled. Then she'd put both her feet up in the begging position and just look absolutely irresistible.

Anyway, I kept accidently calling her Bella instead of Belle so I had to get her papers and change her name

This picture is not flattering of her at all but here's her precious face...

Here's Eliza, the toy poodle who just came in on Thursday and was adopted yesterday... Yeah!! (She really could use a good haircut)

Oh my gosh Aly I love them both! I wonder why Belle hasn't been adopted yet. It is a good thing I don't live in Texas! Seriously, the other day my son was saying that Bella looks so alone in the yard just walking around and smelling the smells and watching the birds and squirrels. He said she needs a friend to romp with outside. We have always had two dogs at a time but that was before the cats! I don't know what the future holds as far as that goes, but I know if I saw your Belle her days in the shelter would be over!!

Yes poodles are great little playmates. They are really people dogs. My miniature poodle used to sit on the floor on her hind legs and then wave her front two paws as if to say "look at me!" just like your Belle at the shelter does. I wonder if there is a poodle gene that causes this because we never taught her.

When Bella was a tiny puppy (not that long ago) she was always in my lap, whether I was in a chair or on the floor. Now at 24 lbs. she still tries to be in my lap but there's just too much Bella these days! She probably thinks my lap shrunk! She follows me everywhere. If I go upstairs to put laundry away, up she goes. When I come back down, down she comes. She is my little sidekick and I love her so much!

Shoot, Pam. I'm living proof that lots of them can live together!! Two dogs, two cats, two hamsters, two humans!!! Kind of scary, isn't it?? And now, we're down to two hermit crabs too! Lost a big one this week....its kinds of gross when they die, they come out of their shells. Yuck!
Get another baby for Bella, Pam. Poor, lonely thing. I think Aly's Bella is perfect!!! HeHeHe!!! You know, misery loves company!!!

Pam - Poodles are like Pringles.. you can't have just one!

Pssst Bella, we'll work on your mom and maybe you'll end up with a sibling some day soon!

Logan - I can't wait until I move. I want to have a full house too. Sorry about the death of your hermit crab. How are the cats with the hamsters?

Ha!Ha!Ha! Logan and Aly you two crack me up!!! Yes I really do see another dog in my future but I'd like to wait at least a year. My very first two toy poodles were one year apart and they were great little friends. Trevor and Andy are probably happier with the cat/dog ratio as it is now!

So sorry about the passing of the hermit crab Logan. I had gotten a couple of them years ago for my kids and they had a very short life.

Aly, why don't you adopt Bella? I'm sure Reece would love a friend!

Thanks for your good wishes about the hermit crab. I have to tell you that Helen has lost her interest in them, so guess who does the "mothering"?? Me! She cried and cried the first time one died on us, but last week, I said "we lost one of the big hermit crabs", and all she said was "don't throw away the shell". Later, she mentioned that she didn't get as upset over them as she used to. I guess I'm glad. We just have so many other things to occupy us with all the other animals, they kind of play second fiddle around here. Hopefully, the remaining two will have a long life, but I don't think we'll get anymore.

As for the cats and hamsters, they don't mix. Mimi has never even noticed them, but I had to move the cages because I found Butter standing on top of one looking in. The dogs are fascinated when I take the hamsters out, but I usually wait until everyone is outdoors or asleep to play with them. Just in case!!

Pam & Aly - I say adopt her! there are wonderful groups that help transport dogs from shelters to forever homes or foster homes. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TRUCK-N-PAWS/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CaRescueRR

Heck if i was nearby i'd help out too!

I would adopt her but I don't have the best living arrangement for a large dog right now. Actually I don't think I'm even allowed to have one over 40 lbs here. I am moving in August though and hopefully can find a place with a yard. Then bring on the standard poodles, german shepherds, mastiffs, labradors, anatolian shepherds..... ok the list is never ending

I wish these pictures could capture her absolute charming personality. She's a bit of a firecracker and takes a firm hand in training but she is so eager to please and full of love.

Aly...My husband would love to have that dog. Our beloved Whitney was black and she died so suddenly and without any warning that I don't think he will ever recover. When we first got Bella he called her Whitney a few times and she has been gone 5 years. I definitely would be visiting that shelter if I lived in Texas!

Great news! She was adopted today!!! A radio station was at the shelter for a couple hours yesterday and some people heard about her and came to see her today.

Aly...I am so glad for her but am feeling sort of protective of her at the same time. I hope her new people treat her like the queen she is!! I would never make it as a breeder or working at a shelter. It would be hard to let go!! I would probably be looking at people like a hawk to make sure they were worthy of these sweeties and even though I'd feel happy that they were in their forever home, I would miss them so much!

I'm the same way. Luckily most of the people who come to the shelter here are animal lovers. We weed out the questionable ones on the application process. I am TERRIFIED of accidently placing Julius to a home where he'll become declawed or not loved, or something awful. Hopefully I can find a wonderful person.

Aly, that's wonderful. The last photo is so sweet. Kind of like she's saying "Yahoooooo!" I've got a home! I wish her all the best. She sounds like such a sweetheart.
