Different kinds of Dog Foods.......

Hi!!!! I just want to know what kinds of Dog Foods your dog(s) eat!! My Sadie eats Iams, in the green bag. I'm thinking about changing her to Eukanuba, or Sciece Diet. A lot of people keep dog food in that! What kind(s) of Dog Foods do you think are the best? The worst? I think Iams, Eukanuba, and Science Diet. I think the worst Dog Food is "Kibbles'n' Bits. I don't know why I think it's the worst!

I just switched Reece from Iams to Sensible Choice. I really like Sensible Choice but am actually looking into Innova. I personally don't like Science Diet. I think the absolute worst food are the ones sold in grocery stores.

I think the worst food is that food that's supposed to resemble ground hamburger, I don't know the name of it but it comes in a box with individule packages inside. It has the apperance and smell of playdough. When I was a young girl I remember my next door neighbor used to feed her lab mix that playdough burger junk and the dog only lived to be 6 years old due to kidney failure, cancer, allergies...and the list goes on. When her dog died she gave us this bag of crap that she used to feed her dog (a couple packages of vanilla and chocolate creme sandwich cookies made for people, a few boxes of that aweful burger crumble food, some grocery store brand canned food that, when I opened it, looked like fat, and other various nutrition-less foods. I bet that's why "Blackie" only lived to be 6 years old! Poor lady did not know any better, she thought that the way to show her dog that she loved her was to feed her that way. Needless to say when she gave us that bag of junk for our dog we thanked her for her kindness, gave her our sympathy for the death of her Blackie, said our goodbyes and shut the door, and, after examining the contents of the bag it went right into the trash instead of our beloved lab's stomach. I am not saying that if your dog does not live long it's the owner's fault, but in this case I think it was.

I feed my dogs Innova dry and they really like it. It's a good food. I have thought about starting them on Wysong brand but I'm happy with Innova so I don't expect I will change foods anytime soon. I will do my part to lengthen the life of my dogs. I can't do anything about what their genetics have in store for them, but I will keep them as healthy as I am able to so they can bless me with their love for many, many years to come.

My two German Shepherd Dogs (110 and 102 lbs.) usually eat Eukanuba Large Breed. However, Shiloh's vet said she wanted Shiloh to get back to 95 lbs. from her present 102. She's on Eukanuba Reduced Fat for now.

I feed Simba the peddigree small crunchie bits. An Kibbles"N"Bits are pretty good i think my neighbors dog (hienze 57 doggie a.k.a. MUTT) her name was Pooter lived to be 17 and she got fed kibbles and bits. But they had to pit her to sleep because it was her time. Simba gets acasionally kibbles n bits as a snackie because he loves it so much!!

Our two dogs eat canned "Nature's Recipe"
(lifestages) adult maintenance, Lamb and Rice in the morning and in the late afternoon they eat dry Lamb and Rice. The canned lamb and rice also has potatoes and carrots in it. They do well on this diet.

Big confession....I always fed my previous dogs the store bought kind. Just never knew how bad it was. Once I did a little research about dog food, I made the decision to switch to one of the super premium natural foods. I am currently using Flint River Ranch for mine. And you have to order it from a distributor, but dollar for dollar, it comes out about the same as they don't need to eat nearly as much of it. I also supplement occasionally with some canned Iams food, just to give them a treat. And their snacks are ordered through one of two places, either www.onceuponadog.com or www.c3treats.bigstep.com. They love both!

We feed our dogs Pedigree - dry kibble, not canned. The two Shepherds also get a handful of TD every day to help clean their teeth. I don't give that to Carl though, because he never chews it, which defeats the whole purpose of it.

Once my friend left a bag of dog food in their barn and forgot about, they found it a year or so later (I don't remember exactly how long) and it was just a pile of sawdust. I don't remember what kind it was. But this tells you what kind of stuff goes into some dog foods.

bug gets the sensible choice and natures recipe. she likes them both but after 5 years of sensible choice she was very happy to switch. now i mix them both together. I've noticed that sometimes she'll pick out the natures way and other times she'll pick out the sensible choice. (sneakyyyy!) I get compliments all the time on her coat and how shiny soft it is!

when i first got her, i fed her pedigree - until a friend told me to put some on a brown paper bag and i saw alll the grease and oil - i switched to the less oily food!

she also loves pizza! particularly sausage, olive and mushrooms!

My girls eat Iam's.. the green bag for adults small bites. I switched to it about a year ago and so far they haven't gotten sick of it like they seemed to have done with other foods I've tried. Pedigree small bites is what I switched from and they did like that for awhile. But, my one dog Sasha seems to have a really bad appetite. We had to put a little bit of milk or water on her food for her to even go near it for awhile and then that didn't even work. She didn't eat for two days. So, I decided to buy some canned food and mix a little bit in with each bowl. The other girls don't get much... just enough to appease them but I have to give Sasha a bit more to make her eat. I can make one can last 2 days for 3 dogs.

I try to read the ingredients on all these foods but I don't know what to look for and what is considered bad. Can anyone fill me in?

Merlin here , Mom feeds me Nutra pet for dogs she buys it from Quixtar on the internet. It's great and I have less reasons to go out side to do by business. I did eat petagree for a while but too many trips out side drove mom crazy. Nutra pet is used by some of the sled dog comptears So mom says if it's good enough for them it should be good for me. (I still would rather have tea and crumpets!)

I think there is a topic I started a while back when Shai was having digestive troubles. Right now I am feeding her Sensible Choice Natural Blend mixed with Iams (green bag!)
And I mix a some canned food or Bil Jac frozen food in with it - she Loves the BilJac.
I wouldn't reccommend Kibbles and Bits unless it was mixed with a better quality food. A lady I work with has a golden retriever who is her heart and soul and she fed her Kibbles and Bits and she suffered from such horrible allergies, and was almost completly bald!! She switched foods and she is doing excellant!! She was considering putting her down to put her out of her misery. And that would be no small consideration for this lady!! She would go nuts if anything happened to Molly.
The first thing to look at for dog food is the ingredient. The most desired ingredient listed as #1 should be meat. Whether it be, chicken, lam, beef, turkey etc. Pedigree and Science Diet's first ingrediant is Corn.
I tried Innova and Shai loved it, but she also really likes what she eating now so I am not one to mess with a good thing in this case!!! I searched and searched and bought and bought to find the right kind of food for her!!!!

I am feeding Bella Eukanuba puppy food, medium breed (breeder's suggestion). Had a coupon for a free Mighty Dog the other day and stirred 1/2 can into her dinner. Wow did that go down fast!! Normally I just moisten the kibble, but for a treat every once in a while I'll add some Mighty Dog.
