    Biddy a subordinate to.....................?

CALVIN?!?! I could not believe it.

Picture this: When the cats are all done with their meals (remember, they eat separated in carriers with 1 or 2 in their own separate rooms) I let them out and sometimes there is a bit of leftover. if it is not too much, I allow the "big pigs" (namely Lucas and Biddy) to clean up the bowls. And Biddy gladly pushes anyone and everyone out of his way. But today, Calvin ( a big cat, but a soft-hearted one.......or so I thought) was finishing and Biddy was NOT......repeat NOT... trying to push him out of the way. He just layed down in front of him, waiting!?!? This is unheard of. So I watched. Calvin ate and Biddy watched. When Calvin looked away Biddy tries to sneak a bite. Calvin then comes out with the reason Biddy just watched.........he smacked him right on top of the head and then growled and finished his meal. And Biddy just layed down even flatter on the floor. It was utterly amazing! I never saw him back down from anyone. Good for you Calvin!

Good on you Calvin. Isn't it nice when a different cat 'wins'.

George is starting to stand up for himself and I cheer inside when this happens.

PS. Jen.... Did you read my thread (You can be TOO friendly) Milo found a Calvin lookalike ? http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthre...threadid=26796

I wish Jack would do that with Ali...she can be such a little butthead sometimes. Since I've started feeding Jack new food, she's always trying to sneak getting into it (remember she is diabetic and gets special food) and Jack just lets her do it.

LOL! Way to go Calvin, don't put up with anything! It's your dinner after all!

Jen, it would have been fun if you had it on video - do you have one? I'm thinking of setting ours up at bedtime, that's when Fister attacks the cardboard boxes in the living room.

That would be so funny to see on video. Speckles (the pig) will hide in the living room and when Max leaves his dish to clean his little facie, Specks will run up to the bowl and grab as much as she can before Max scares her off. Too funny.

is Calvan young, and then perhaps he got older and thought hey enough of this? or was it a new flavor that Calvan was ready to fight for?
with my cats, Patches and Charlie were always the piggies, gobbling up their food and then going after the others, and they were the youngest of the group! but they have learned their manners, now when I feed them, they patiently wait til a plate is put in front of them! I guess they just had to 'grow up" for their manners to kick in? LOL anyway one time, I fed them turkey, and I guess Emma decided this was her very favorite, because SHE ate all hers and then hogged up everyone elses!

Cute kitties. I just visited my aunt in Arizona...she has 14 cats. Anyways, during feeding cat each and every cat knows it's spot. Some get fed on the hutch, some on the counter, some on the kitchen table, some on the floor, some in the living room, etc...and each and every cat knows exactly where their spot is. When she gets out the dishes, all the cats run to their assigned seats. I was totally amazed.

    Interesting....

Some people tend to think that the order amongst cats as being static rather than dynamic. It is a constant power struggle, and as those of you who have lots of kitties know, the order often changes, but most of the time those changes are fairly subtle.

This is a fairly obvious example of the less subtle variety! With Mum's two cats, Whiskey and Milo, the older female Milo is the most dominant of the two. It doesn't stop Whiskey from occasionally getting the upper hand, especially as she is a very devious cat who often outwits humans!

Mum to two little humans, a very vocal 14 year old Ragdoll, and a super energetic and snuggly rescue kitten.

yeah thats true, it can change... Muffin was always "boss", then she got to where she just wanted away from the other cats, so her and Callie would stay in one part of the house away from the others, callie always had to be separated. Muffin came out to the rest of the house some of the time... and then Emma would bug her so she would want back in her part of the house again.. one day though, Muffin chased Emma into the bathroom, I saw that she cornered her and was batting at her! Emma was cowering! I don't know what happend but obviously Emma has gone too far, Muffin is pretty mild but Em must have pushed her too far, oh the wrath of Muffin!

funny thing though, Charlie and Patches have remained the same, just equal... they play together and there is no power or alpha cat trouble. there is only the occasional mild disagreement between Emma and Cassie... one day, I was in the bathroom, (you know cats always have to foloow you everywhere.) and
there was a slight problem with those two, they both wanted my attention.. I try to stay out of it, but this time Cassie was wrong, so I nudged her away with my foot and pet Emma, and Cass just walked away, and looked right at Emma as she walked out... with a look that was clearly hostile! as if to say, ok Im leaving, but watch out later!

Marysmerrycats, she lives in Phoenix near 101 and 17. I should tell her about Pet Talk! She isn't online much, but next time she is I will let her know. Most of her cats are related to eachother. She'd originally had like 3 cats, then she got married and her husband brought 3 more or so. Then people heard about how she had six cats, and dropped off one or two litters of strays. So now she has a gazillion cats. She also has a few dogs. That I can remember: a minpin a rottweiler, and a great dane mix.
