    Jose

My cat, or should I say best friend, of 11 years died Wednesday of cancer. I'm so empty and lost without him. He was my soulmate. When I come home from work, his face isnt at the window. He's no longer everywhere he was in the house. His morning hugs are so missed. His personality is a part of everything and it's so hard. I love him so much. Other people don't seem to understand or maybe they were not fortunate enough to ever have that relationship with an animal. Unconditional love. I don't have a human soulmate to share the loss with. I have other cats, and I do love them, but they are not Jose, and I don't wish them to be. He was more than a cat and better than most humans. I'm so lost without him. I didn't get to say goodbye.

    Welcome to Pet Talk.

I am so sorry about your loss. Jose was a true friend & companion to you for many years, of course you are grieving for him, this is only natural.

Jose will be looking down to you from Rainbow Bridge, he will be bright & happy and no longer suffering from cancer, waiting for you to meet again. He knows you love him, you didn’t need to say goodbye.

You mentioned other cats, of course they can’t replace Jose but they will help you grieve.

If you would like, you can post a picture of Jose, maybe share some happy memories of him, if it would help.

Just in case you haven't heard of Rainbow Bridge...

    The Rainbow Bridge story

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

Welcome to Pet Talk. It's too bad the occasion is so sad. I'm sorry that Jose had to go to the Bridge. It's OK to grieve for your cat. Ignore the people who don't understand.

I am soo very sorry you lost your Jose. You may not have any one right there that understands but there are many here that do. It is so heartwrenching to lose your best friend like that. And there really are not any words that will make you feel any better. The only thing that helps is time. Even allowing new friends in your life doesn't help the empty place that Jose has left. But he is there alive still in your heart and memories and you are a better person for them. When the time is right to open your home and heart for another you will know. Just please take comfort in knowing that many here are grieving for you and understanding your pain and loss.

Welcome to pet talk. I am sorry it was due to such sad circumstances. We (all) know that loss that you are experiencing right now. We know that it is real and it is devestating. To any one of us our pets are our companions, our friends and yes even our children. To gieve is natural and normal. I would feel more likely to not understand a person who was NOT hurt by the loss of a companion animal. Your other kitties will not replace Jose but they will help you get through the hardet times. They will need your love as they are experiencing the same loss (and yes, animals ARE affected by the death of other pets). I hope you will continue to come here, tell us about Jose and also your other pets and we will tell you about ours (and convince you to get more cats.....that is my specialty ) Keep in mind that the pain will ease and the GOOD memories will soon be all that is left.

    Welcome to Pet Talk.
I am so sorry for your loss. I can definitely relate, as I lost a cat of 10 years to cancer. Simon was his name, I had to let him go to the Rainbow Bridge about a week ago.
Only time can heal your pain. Jose is well again at the RB.
Jose will always be in your heart.

Welcome to PetTalk - but I'm sorry you have to find us at such a difficult time in your life.

Your dear kitty friend Jose helped you learn how to love - and when you love others (cats or any beings) you honor Jose's memory. You spent so many years together, it will take a long time for the hurt to heal. But you have a lifetime of memories and soon, when you need to smile, you'll remember a silly antic or warm moment you shared with Jose.

We'll be thinking of you during these sad days of missing your sweetie!

Cajomi, last year I lost about 6 furkids to FeLIV, and because I was not aware that the virus had gone through my pride. Needless to say I was very upset. Yet, God was good to me and sustaining me with my losses, because not only did I find some more furkids but also those whose character was even better than those that I lost. May I suggest to you that instead of continuing mourning over your loss, that you find another pet that can fill the void, one who needs you as much as you need him/her. We are all aware of what you are going through, grieving as is common to all who go through such unfortunate situations. However, I have found that getting another pet cat is the best way to handle your losses. Have you visted your local animal shelter? I am sure that you will find a furr-ball of love that all of us cat-lovers desire.

Welcome to Pet Talk. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I know exactly how you're feeling right now because I lost my Pepper almost 4 months ago. I had two other cats at the time and they really helped me get through my grieving process. The people here at Pet Talk also helped me with their emotional support. I adopted another cat about a month later and he's really helped me move on with my grieving process.

At least Jose is now pain free and playing happily at Rainbow Bridge. It will take time to get over the pain that you're feeling but in time you'll be able to remember the good times that you had with him. You may want to adopt another cat in the future. I know that another cat will never replace Jose but it will help ease your pain. Please take care.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Grief for such a wonderful friend is perfectly understandable and appropriate.

Sharing here can help. Good luck to you.

Welcome to Pet Talk. I'm so sorry that your first post had to be so sad. Know that Jose is now running and playing happily at the Rainbow Bridge and watching over you. Take some time to grieve and at the same time I hope the memories will keep a smile on your face. Any chance of honouring him by posting a picture for us to see??
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!
