    pet skunks anyone?

Ive wanted a pet skunk since before I even knew they have been domestically bred as pets for hundreds of years! lol Unfortunately, as I discovered yesterday, they are illegal here in Washington. :'( (Maybe why I never knew people actually have them as pets)! I was just wondering how many PTers own, have owned, or know anyone who has, pet skunks??

hehe yeah I hope I and you can get one one day too. lol! I seriosuly would consider getting one illegally someday. (shhh) I mean they are legal in Idaho & Oregon, I can just get one there, and go to a vet there. Not like the skunk police are gonna be knocking on my door. No one will even know I have one, they dont make noise, I wont let it outside. And I know many people own them illegally. I read in an article that theres people in Canada owning them illegally without even realizing it. hah! (Or I could just move to Oregon lol) Cause damn. I read a few articles about the reasons why they are illegal in many states and they are just ridiculous reasons. Its all about rabies. GRR. THEY ARENT BORN WITH RABIES PEOPLE! So moronic. Theres a huge difference between the domestic pet skunks and wild ones! Its like the same issues people were having with ferrets before they were legal. And the other thing is about how theres no "official" rabies shot for skunks, but I read that people just use the ferret rabies shot and that works, AND its like, well duh, if they were legal maybe there would be a shot! growl. BAH. Its just silly. But anyhoo.. I hope they become legal nationwide soon. Heres the site I was reading all this at: http://www.skunksaspets.com/published.htm

And omG that spotted skunk is BEAUTIFUL!! Heres somepet skunk photos!: http://www.matriarch.org/page%201.htm

Heres an interesting site with health info about skunks, and a little section about the rabies issue.

    http://www.domesticskunks.com/rabies_in_skunks.htm

It makes me so mad how SIMPLE this issue would be to solve, yet it seems like the law makers just dont give a hoot! >:O

And yeah I was looking at past POTD to see how many frogs there were, and thats when I saw the skunk Mandy and thats what got me into researching them as pets! I hadnt seen the other 2 yet though! CUTIES!

I had a skunk when I was 18 or 19 and he was the best pet ever. So layed back and effectionate, unfortunately he lasted only a couple weeks and died of severe anemia from ticks and fleas. Yes he was wild, his mother was ran over. He had two siblings but I was unable to catch them. If only there were blood banks for skunks...
