    Micah!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long have I had cats??? Over two years? (OK, that doesn't sound very long, but still) All the cats are so good about the litter box. They don't demand it to be clean and I've often thought that had something happen to me, they'd keep "going" on top of the old stuff.

Guess what I caught Micah doing today??? He was in our closet PEEING on our down comforter!!!!! WHY is he doing that? The boxes were just cleaned (and are usually cleaned every night)! There aren't any boxes anywhere near the closet, so its not a UTI issue. What's going on???

I remember you saying that his bum was sore and elimination was painful for him, maybe he has learned to associate the litter box with pain and is looking for a softer more comfortable spot to go. That said I have had problems with Maya that i now think were stress related due to changes of routine, strangers in the house etc. The vet gave her a clean bill of health and some anti anxiety meds plus Feliway and that seemed to settle it. Oh yes, I make sure I'm home by 7 pm at the latest. It doesn't matter that my husband is here, it has to be me that touches base with her and then I can leave again. We've had no peeing since January . I used that Miracle pet stain remover stuff, it has a mild peroxide solution that took out peestain and smell from my comforter, pillow and futon couch and bed. She left no spot unpeed that was associated with me.

I think Micah is associating the litterboxes that you have with pain. Also do you have both varieties? Covered and uncovered? because Bastet won't go in an uncovered tray. She likes her kitty privacy.

Its definately not an attention seeking behaviour? Aby's are very attention intensive.

    Oh dear, not another one!

It could be that like Luna who had this problem not so long ago, kitty is associating the litter box with pain. It could also be a number of other things - a stressful environment, a change in the disinfectant you use, a change in the litter, doing it to punish you for something (I had a cat that urinated/defecated in the shower to punish me!) ... and so on and so forth.

All you can do is be as patient as possible (I know it is really really annoying) until you find the cause of the problem.

BTW Bastet's Mum - Pixel doesn't care about her litter box lid! Tonight when I had finished emptying her litter box, it was sitting in the middle of the laundry with it's top off. We could both see her from the kitchen, but she came in and did her biz with an unrepentant look on her face! She has no shame, that cat!

I hope you find out why Micah is doing this.

Could you place a brand new litter tray where he went ?

The first couple of weeks after I got Emily she did exactly the same thing on my down comforter (except I was sleeping under it at the time). The litter box was not normally kept in the bedroom, but it turned out that she has a serious UTI (two rounds of antibiotics and a big dry cleaning bill later we fixed the problem)

Good luck, but maybe get him checked out just to be on the safe side.

    Emily The Spoiled

Yucky! That reminds me of a cat I had as a child who once did a huge diahorrea on the bed when I was sleeping in it. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

I know that it sounds pretty bad, but at least she made her point. I took her into the vet that afternoon

Just because the boxes are not near the closet doesn't mean he doesn't have a UTI. When a cat has a UTI they often go everywhere, trying to find a more 'comfortable' place that won't cause them pain. As someone else already said, the cat may also be associating the litterbox with pain, and is looking to go elsewhere.

Poor Micah, he's been through so much. Have you checked with the vet? Do you have an update??
