I've had many animals . I think the hardest to maintane properlywould be a ferrit.

What a brilliant question!

Well, the difficult thing about this is that everyone has their own idea of what a properly maintained animal, of almost any species, is. Take the indoor/outdoor cat thing or the dog in the bed/not on your life....oh,no that's just me isn't it! (LOL-see, used it again!)
My problem is that I am never happy that I'm doing enough - I'm alright with the dog and the cat as I know that they are telling me that things are hunky dory by their behaviour. The birds and fish have ever expanding areas to live in, although the fish (a marbled Oscar) has his space and stays there no matter how big the tank is.
Then, when you have made the space, you feel that the living space is too empty and a companion is needed. (For the birds, not the fish as he will eat anything that he can fit in his mouth and batter to death anything he can't!) Then, of course, you need more space......
All in all I think that reptiles and amphibians tend to be bought for the wrong reasons and then left to suffer in bad housing and with terrible diets.
Birds of prey are the next for exactly the same reasons.

Well so far in my life, I have had hermit crabs, a hamster, two budgies, and Daisy. I'd say the birds were the hardest to mantain just because they made such a mess, pooping everywhere and scattering seed shells all over the floor. I had to vacuum under their cage and table every day! Plus you add in the fact that they didn't even like me and devoured my fingers... it wasn't too much fun!

I can only speak from the experiences I have had and currently have. We have two dogs, two cats, two hamsters and now two hermit crabs. I would say that the dogs are definitely the most "high maintenance", meaning taking the most of my time, but the easiest to please. Of all I have experienced, it is actually the hamsters that I worry the most over, simply because they seem to be the most unhappy...always trying to escape . It is sort of sad, although Helen and I take time each day to play with them and give them time to "run" around out of their cages. Cats are definitely the easiest in my opinion! Even though my Butter gives me a daily "test"!

I think the hardest pet to maintain is reptiles. My brother has a Monitor Lizard. And it is so hard to maintain. It really has nothing to do with his health but more with spacethe lizard can reach 4-6feet! I feel bad for it. I don't think these animals should be kept as pets. they are just unhappy and should remain wild.
