Cat Photography tips and tricks?

I accidently used my flash on my poor kitty a couple of days ago now whenever i pull out the camera she runs away.

Does anyone know what i can do? tips or tricks or even links to sites that talk about how to take cat photos (getting their attention and to stay put)

Here is one site I found.

Bo is like that too - he's my oldest cat and has been 'flashed' more than once. I have umpteen pictures of him with closed eyes.

I like shooting my cat pictures in my front room. It faces west and has huge windows so I can use the natural light. My cats are indoors only, so I can't do them outdoors - I'm afraid I'd never get their attention outside, either.

So I wait until a nice bright day - I don't like the sun coming directly in the windows because that creates too many shadows. Then make sure the cat is comfy and not too playful. I grab a wand or something so they have something to look at and don't just end up taking a bath.

I use a digital camera and take a bunch of pictures at a time, then I have a better chance of getting at least a couple good ones. Patience is the key.

I don't really have any tips. I usually use a flash but usually also get the eye glare too. I try to take the picture when the cat is looking away from me. I've also tried using no flash but you need a lot of good light for this. Thanks for the great link boscibo.

Thanks for that link, boscibo! I also know the problem with the flash. Luna knows exactly when it comes, and in that very second she would close her eyes or turned her head! She doesn't like to be photographed anymore.

I noticed that when there's natural light and I don't need the flash, Luna knows the difference and doesn't act like that, but whitout flash, the photo often gets blurry.

A great trick if you want a picture of a yawning cat: tickle your sleeping cat under her chin; she will open her eyes a bit to see what is happening, and then reward you with a nice big yawn

Must be a "west coast" disease because that was my first thought too - and it's only Wednesday.

Another thing I was told, put a kleenex over the flash, this will soften the results.
