    Proud momma of a Betta

Okay, I haven't had fish in years, but they had Betta's at Pet Supplies Plus (near the cats and kittens because it was adoption day but that's another story... lol!)

    anyway, I couldn't resist...

So I have a Betta and he won't eat the food I got.

Is he just stressed at being in a new enviroment? Does he not like it? Should I scoop out the old food (the pellets are still floating) and give him fresh food?

He's very active and he doesn't look sick. The food in his bowl is the same stuff from yesterday. He just hasn't touched it and it's still floating.

yes scoop out any old food.

If you get a fish you must always remeber that any food left after half an hour is useless, it looses all minerals and vitamins. So just scoop it out and feed him at a certin time once a day, I feed my fish befor I goto bed at night. So they look forward to it all day .. Also bettas dont eat much so dont fret if all the food isnt gone. Just scoop out old food after half an hour k !! good luck with your new friend!!

Yes, definetly get rid of the old food. Sometimes when you put a new fish in a tank it'll take a few days before they want to eat. If he still doesn't eat it then you should try a different kind of food. (I have had some picky bettas myself )
Have any pics of your betta???

No pictures yet. I got into work today and he has begun building a bubble nest and keeps eyeing me. LOL! I'm a threat to his manhood I think.

I fished out the old food... (what didn't sink to the bottom ) and gave him three new pellets.

No nibbles but he does swim up close the them as if he's not really sure what it is that is invading his space.

I usually scoop out what my Bettas haven't eaten 5 minutes after I feed them so they don't overeat.

I've never had a problem with a fish not eating. All mine have been piggies so I guess I can't help.

Good luck with your new baby and let us know when he eats!

Well, it's been about a week, and I still don't think he's eating the food. There's a lot of pellets on the bottom of the bowl and he seems content to just guard his bubble nest.

Try live tubifex worms. All of my bettas were a bit picky, and I used to actually have to buy several different kinds of foods, until I discovered Tubifex. They're actually better for the betta too!

I don't feed my bettas pellets, I feed them Nutrafin Max Betta Food. They're flakes, and my Bettas love them. If they do not eat it within 5-10 minutes, I scoop it out.
I have never really had a problem with my Bettas eating, so I cannot really be of much help. Maybe my dad will know, I'll ask him to look at this thread later.
    Good luck with your betta!

    YAY!!! We have a winner!!!

I picked up some flakes w/ brine shrimp and at first Jango looked at it like he wasn't sure... then... GOBBLE GOBBLE!!!

    WOOHOOO!!!

    I'm soooo happy he's eating.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
