    Trick?

I've seen before like in movies where someone rests a toy or treat on a dogs nose and the dog will sit there until the person says a command to allow the dog to get the treat. But has anyone acutually trained their dog to do that? Also I want to start to train Ringo to Sit, shake, lay,etc...But is it too soon he's only 14 wks old and not fully potty trained should Iwait to train him after the housebreaking or when he's older?

Hmm..well I think it's possible to teach her not to take the cookie till you say so. Kai kinda knows that...well he knows not to touch food unless i say so. I think you can definately start training your pup. I think you should train her to sit first...it's like a foundation for everything else. It's alot easier to train down...shake..etc when you have sit done.

I'm sure you can teach it, quite a few people here have taught their dogs to hold a treat on their nose (Nebo, Bob, Simba...etc).One of them (Simba) will even hold steak in his mouth until he's told it's ok to eat it
And no he's not too young, start training now!! The younger the better
We started with my girl Roxey when she was 8 wks old, she didn't always listen or like what we were doing, but she eventually understood that she had to do it.

I have had two dogs who could do this trick and two who didn't have a clue what it was all about. Bailey, my first cockapoo, did it immediately on the very first try. I was just going to see if she could balance the cookie on her nose and when I did, she flipped it in the air and caught it. From then on it was easy, just teaching her to *hold it* until I said okay. It is definitely a team effort however and you are challenged to place the cookie in exactly the correct position for the best flip. Bailey could do the trick with panache, holding it for ever so long. Hannah on the other hand, it more intent on getting that cookie, and her flip is more rudimentary.

My Tizzie would just let the cookie slide off her nose and Tucker is the same. So even though I am well versed in the technique, you do need a dog who has it in them to do this one.

I taught Nebo to do this trick. It took a while, but he's great at it now. He'll balance other things (like frisbees ) on his nose/head, and now he also knows "hold" and will hold things in his mouth for me.

Here's a thread I started on it a while back......if you scroll down there's a step-by-step instruction from a book. Oh, and since he's only 14 weeks, you may want to wait a while before teaching this one. It takes a lot of patience on the pup's part, and that's hard with young pups.

I have not taught my dogs that, but I am sure it can be done, especially at that young of age. I agree that the younger that better.

    My dog does that!

I place it on her nose and tell her to stay. Then, after a few minutes, I'll say "Get it!" and she'll flip it up in the air and catch it

I could even leave the room for a few mintues and come back and it will still be on her nose!

Here are some pics of Leather and her treat
