    Gastro Problems with Chester

Chester has this really weird tummy problem. The vet has no idea , so I thought I’d ask you guys!
He’s having these episodes (maybe once a week, sometimes more) where he won’t eat. Not even the good stuff; salmon, canned dog food, cheese. He practically runs from the food like he’s utterly disgusted by it and his tummy makes this awful gurgling noise. Not like a growl, but popping and gurgley. He also will get down on his front legs and put his rear in the air, sometimes staying like that for 5-10 minutes. He will also stretch a lot during these times. When he walks, his tail is down and his rear is kind of humped and he’s obviously distressed. Not in bad pain, just very unhappy. Once I finally get him to eat, he’s fine.

Anybody have any ideas? Gastrointestinal, I’m sure, but what kind of gastro problem could it be? He’s done this a lot lately, though it has also happened in the past a few times, too.

He’s a 4 & ½ year old neutered toy fox terrier with allergies and takes shots for them, but is otherwise healthy.

has your vet done blood work or xrays/ultrasound while he's feeling like that? alex the wonder dog had a bout of pancreatitis and he did the playbow stretching thing and had the gut gurgles. hope you and the vet figure this out.

    Thanks Wolfsoul, me too.

Joycenalex- I'll definitely check with the vet about the pancreatitis. He's never been seen when he's feeling like that. I've taken him in before when he was having an episode, but the excitement of the vet’s office seemed to distract him so that he seemed his normal self. Of course, just like when the car goes, ping, ping, ping.

    Re: Gastro Problems with Chester

Rocky goes through episodes about 2 times a week,
when he will skip his breakfast. He
tends to get gas a lot, but not like you
    are describing about Chester.
When Rocky and Sheba get to much gas I give them,
    Gas-Aid by Francodex.

Keep an eye on Chester to make sure his
tummy doesn't look swollen from air.
I will be thinking of Chester and hope
    he is ok.

Well, he woke up with the gurgles again and wouldn' eat breakfast. Hubby rushed him to the vet before it could stop and they did blood work and the vet got to hear the noises. I gave him a list of symptoms and non symptoms, like no diarrhea, but some vomiting, etc. They did the bloodwork and EVERYTHING came back perfect. Yay!!!

They said that all his levels were great and still don't really know what's going on. We will only feed dog food (very difficult as Chester's a VERY picky and spoiled doggie and has all kinds of food allergies) and see if it still happens. He's started eating grass again, though he had stopped for a while.
Who knows, with Chester it could be anything. Maybe it's just bad gas pains. I know sometimes he toots a lot.
