Breeding a 6 month old rescue dog in first season?

My friend who have posted about before has 4 dogs in a small house. One 18 month old neutered male jac russel, a 6 month old lurcher cross female, a 10 week old jack russel puppy and a 2 year old entire male border collie.

The female has just come into her first season, my friend is talking about breeding her with the border collie. This is wrong as these are both dogs from rescue centres. I am worried that even if they decide against it they are doing nothing to prevent it.

She has told me the female will not the males near her and that the male is not interested anyway. She has also said they cannot mate when she is bleeding, is this true? The dogs are not being kept separate from her.

I have spoken to another friend whose family have bred norwich terriers in the past (show dogs) and she said that the males will start to fight over her and that her keeping them away at the moment is "flirting" and when she is ready she will let him mate her.

Finally is breeding a 6 month old female detrimental to her? The male is bigger tha she is and it seems like only weeks ago she was a small puppy.

Please any information will be of great help, I am going to print out this page and replies and give it to her.

    Sarah

P.S. I am thinking of ringing the rescue centre and advising them of what she is doing. The female is going to end up pregnant either accidentally or on purpose and I cannot let them risk her health without doing something.
    Happy to help

I am not sure if its proper to breed her first season or not, but I do feel the rescue center should be informed before she is breed. They may have their own rules in such situations.
    Scott is owned by 5 cats: Jackson, Fluffy, Twidgit, Ashton, Lexi;
and 3 dogs: Eli, Sassee, Ginger

I agree the rescue center should be informed. It is against every rescue I know of to breed. They should all be neutered and spayed.I think she is to young to breed her healthily but I am not an expert. It is true however she will keep them away until she is ready and then they will mate.If they are not seperate she will get pregnant. It is completely wrong. Please encourage your friend to do the right thing. She rescued these babies now don't make more babies that need rescueing. Not to mention the effect it may have on momma who is just a pup herself.

Tell her it's dangerous, anyway, then let the rescue center know about it. It is surprising that they let her adopt without having her agree to get the dog spayed. Tell her to seperate the female from the males right away.

That said, I am not sure, frankly that it IS dangerous to the dog, but she doesn't need to know that. What I do know is there are puppies and dogs being put to sleep by the thousands because of indiscriminate breeding.

It is very wrong to breed a 6 month old pup on her first heat. First off she is still a baby herself and is not fully developed yet. Her bones are still soft and forming. Having a baby will only pull her needed calcium from her system to support her unborn babies.

That alone should be a big enough factor to want her to prevent her pup from being bred, but if it's not consider this....

She is breeding a mix with a border collie. Has she figured out the costs associated with having a litter of pups? What is one or more has problems? Can she nurse them to health? Does she have the time or commitment to realize she is bringing these pups into the world and she is responsible for there welfare?

Can she place all the pups in good homes before they are born or is she just hoping to make a few dollars from selling them. If the latter is her intention, she is in for a rude awakening. Breeding a healthy litter is more of a break even thing if you do it right.

Discourage your friend in any way you can. Call the shelter and let them know what she is planning and ask them for advice.

It is wrong to breed a six month puppy 1st heat and breeding a mix to another breed Both from rescue. I thought all rescue groups require spay/neuter, at least where I live does. I would contact the rescue organization. A heat last 21 days and they are usually ready around the 11th to 16th day.

The ironic thing is my friend has a place to study veterinary medicine in September, I would never let her near my animals.

I will be ringing the rescue centre tomorrow,

Thankyou so much everyone for giving me the support to know I am doing the right thing. I know I shall lose her as a friend but someone has to say something for her animals as they cannot speak up for themselves.
