    Rocky's toe nail YUCK!

Well it's been 2 weeks since Rocky had a boo boo
    on his toe.
I did not take him back to the vet last monday,
since he was acting his normal goofy self,
    and his toe looked better.
(Well except for him licking his paw.)

Today I notice his toe nail looked all pink and a bit
deformed. Since it's Sunday, I left a message
at the vets office that I would bring him in
Monday morning and not feed him. (incase the vet
    needs to put him under)

I walked into the service porch and it looked like
a black cockroach shell on the floor.
I got a little bit closer, "I hate bugs"
and it was Rocky's black toe nail.
I am talking about the "whole" perfectly formed
nail except for the flesh. I guess that's explains why
Rocky's nail looks funny and dark pink.

Now I am not quite as worried, I figured it's like a human
who looses their nail when they have enjure their finger?
I will still take him to the Vets first thing in the morning
and see if the vet will see us.

Oh Rocky!!!! Seems you took things into your own paws, and got rid of that nasty nail!! I hope that means you won't have to have sirjury now! I'm thinking the white coat will take a look at it and maybe you give you a little medicine to make sure it heals well. I hope it's not hurting...Please make sure your Mom updates us asap! You've got a lot of friends sending you love and well wishes, Rocky! Love, Aunt Sandra, Cody and Star!

Rocky, I hope you aren't in pain!! I'm sure the new nail will grow in just fine. Apparently he wanted to take care of it himself!!

    Thank's you guys.
I took Rocky to the vets first thing in the morning.

Brought his toe nail in too.
Poor Rocky was shaking, he doesn't like
    going to the vets.

Well The Vet said the outer protective shell
    of the nail came off.
and there wasn't much he could do, accept
for cut the toe(quick) part down to where the
nail and the toe will grow back together, or leave it
alone and keep an eye on it.
So the vet said leave it alone and do not walk
Rocky for a few weeks, because it will take
that long for his nail to grow back.
I need to check his toe daily for bleeding, swelling
or infection since it has no protection right now.
I guess it's the same as a person if you bang your finger and
the nail turns black and falls off.
So hopefully it will be ok.

    Thanks again.

Oh poor Rocky!! Hope your nail grows back quickly. Yes, I think Mom should carry you around to keep the pressure off that area.

    KYS,

I read about Rocky's black toenail the other day, but did not
get a chance to respond. Glad the vet says it checked out OK.
Good luck to Rocky. Hope he doesn't bump it or anything & it
heals up quickly. Hugs to your furgang from mine. Liz.

I hope Rocky is up and running in a few days. I know that his little (or Big) paw must be sore. Sounds like he could get a few extra treats out of this, if he bats his eyes just right

    Get well soon.

Ya right!!! hehehe The dog is a moose!!

I did order some boots on e-bay, but haven't got them yet.
THe boots I have now, slip and seem to bother him.
Once that nail came off, the big moose started running around.
So I guess his toe doesn't bother him anymore.

I try to keep an eye on him when he goes to the bathroom
so he does not do that cat dance and damage his toe.

So far so good, and his toe looks ok.
I think, but not sure I can start seeing the new nail start
to come in. (unless it's a bruise)

(Don't laugh but I kept his nail for show and tell)
My girlfriend joked I should make an earing out of it.lol

Thanks you guys for thinking of me and ROcky.
