    they're in-betweeners! lol

I conned my dad into doing some "construction" on her cage (actually, it's a golden retriever/standard poodle/etc dog kennel)--we added another "floor" to it (attached a plastic 'non-skid' shelf) and she LOVES it!!! It's soooo funny she jumps 'upstairs' and just lounges, looking down that cute spotted nose at me! lol

I have some pictures I'll post after work!

OH! And I'm really making headway on her shyness... she no longer flinches when you touch her!! I really wonder about her previous home.

I'm considering doing the "bonding car-ride" with her. If it works for bun-to-bun, maybe it would work for human-to-bun?!

Wow, Zippy, can you send your Dad to Michigan...my buns would LOVE a custom-made anything!!!!

She sure is a very cute girl....her fur looks kind of kinky....is she a rex? We had a bun here at the sanctuary who was definitely a rex and he had this gorgeous white and black krinkly/kinky fur....and was incredibly soft!

I'm sure she'll figure out what a great mom she has and will warm up to you even more when she figures out that you really ARE a soft touch (LOL!!)..... And remember what I teach in my bunny basics classes....... being on the floor with your bun is the fastest way to overcome even the most reluctant bunny....!!!!

Cookiebaker - not a dumb question at all! Actually, I'm glad you asked!

If you have two bunnies who are just aren't bonding, place a box in the backseat of a vehicle and place the bunnies in the box. Now... find a driver (or passenger to make sure things don't get too far out of hand)... go around several turns a bit faster than normal. The buns' toenails won't hold a candle to the fast turns and slick cardboard; they can't help but touch & bump into one another. Usually after 5-10 minutes, you have a new pair of bestest bonded bunny friends!

    Kinda neat, huh?
(There's an article on the HRS website that explains it better, if you're interested....)

Now... problem one... finding a box big 'nuff for me! lol jk!!

Not sure about the rex. It is kind of kinky but it's wire-y. Not as soft as my Soph-monster was (i think she had some American Fuzzy Lop in her--SUPER soft)! I can't decide what breeding Piper has.... she has the kinky fur, BIG ears, and I think some colorings like the hot-tot? She's my buddie!! I wish you could see her...she's binkies all day long!

It's almost time to set up a spay date! She'll be 6mnths old in March!!

    Zippy,
I had no idea the premise of the car ride was for them to slide around in the box and that by bumping into each other, that they'd bond quicker.... I learned that the idea was that the car is neutral territory AND scary because of the noise and motion and that therefore they have to stick together against this huge, lumbering noise box....... Actually the car ride USUALLY accomplishes the bonding either way you think about it...

EXCEPT when you have a very stubborn bunny.....Our gal Rosie from the sanctuary went to live with a very handsome boy named Esche and eight months later and a hundred car miles later, she still doesn't like him much, although she has CONDESCENDED to sit in her cage nestled against the wire while he sits sits in HIS cage next to the wire, so it's sort of like sitting side by side in 2 jail cells or something...... You just got to love the stubborn ones!!!!
