    (: New Cage :)

Yup, the ratties got a new cage. It is a 30x36 Havahart rabbit cage. It was free! Oh, and do they love it! Here are some pictures. This is a frontal shot:

    Top shot:

They love the fact that it is on the ground, because now whenever I open up the door they stampeed out like a herd of Wildebeest, and explore my bedroom. Dudley (cat) loves that it is on the floor, too-I think you know why . I like this cage a lot better than there old one, because it is much bigger, easier to clean!!, and doesn't require any climbing unless they want too (since I have a senior rattie, it's getting harder for her to climb). The cage is yet to get decked out with toys- I have $89 and I plan on spending some/most of it on them . They have TONS of run-around room now.

I told you Dudley loved the new cage location. That's little Peanut, the senior rattie, in the corner. What a cute little belly!!

Maybe this weekend, or when I am not busy with school, I will make a thread with new rattie pictures.

My neighbor gave the cage to me, after her bunny passed away. I believe it was 15 years old.

Just curious but why did you put them in a smaller cage? I can understand about Peanut but the boys are younger and need to climb/run around etc. Their other cage was HUGE, so it's mind boggling why you would put them in a rabbit cage? They do look like they have a lot of toys though. What did you do with the Superpet Cage? Have you looked into Martins cages at all? www.martinscages.com

Their rat R695s are very spacious, powder coated etc. With you having bucks, and that being galvanized wire you need to rinse it with vinegar each time you scrub it or they can get zinc poisoning. Usually galvanized wire is not recommended unless you have does...it really soaks up urine smells. Anyways I have the R695s and they are awesome and almost every rat owner has one.

I'm not saying your cage is yucky or anything, so please don't take it that way. I think it's a nice cage, just was curious why you put them in something smaller. Have you had Bucks before? They get REALLY big, especially dumbo bucks.......you wll probably have to get another cage when they get older. Have you been to the cage calculators site yet? You can enter the demensions of the new cage and it will tell you have many rats (bucks and does) would fit comfortably in the cage. This link isn't the real one but it has all the same things as the original site. :

Believe it or not but this cage is bigger than the SuperPet cage. The SP cage was only about 15" wide and 3?" high. I had to take down the top half, because it was TOO big, that's what makes the new cage bigger than the old one. AND LET ME TELL YOU, I WAS ABOUT TO PUT THAT CAGE OUT ON THE ROAD WITH A "FREE" SIGN ON IT! I GOT SO SICK OF SPENDING 2 HOURS SRUBBING THE PLASTIC FLOORS. AAAAGGGGGGGGHHH! LOL!!! Trust me those boys get exersize alright! Spent 3 hours exploring my room, closet, and bed!! I love those Critter Canteens, they are very nice...no drips!! I have checked out Martins cages, and I was planning on buying one. Hey- when you get offered a nice sized cage for free I'd want to save me the $89.99 for powder coat and $16.99 S&H!!!!!!!! Especially since it's me buying the cage this time, not ma-LOL!!!! If it were ma buying I'd get a Martin's!!!

Heeheee! Thanks! I got it for Christmas. Their food is in a tin drum with yellow lab puppies on it. :

Is everything a killer to rats, or harmful??? Everything on the market seems to be "deadly" to rats. Food, cages, toys, treats, bedding.

No lol. But galvanized wire is bad for bucks...I am not sure about does...which is why on the Martins Cage website it says to clean GW with a vinegar solution. If you do a search you could find more info...I don't know much about it. Let me know what you find out, it could benefit us both.
