    new daschound

I just got a new puppy daschound and I was wondering if it is normal for them to shed a lot of hair around 6 weeks. It looks like he is going bald down the back of this spine! Thanks for any info, this is my first daschound. I have always had yorkies in the past.

If it looks like he's going bald, I would take him to the vet to check for mange or allergies.

Good luck, I hope its nothing serious!

Thanks, I just had him to the vet two days ago and the vet didn't say anything. Now, I just noticed it. I looked up mange on the internet and it doesn't look that bad. It just seems like he is losing or shedding a lot of hair. Maybe it is just a stage and he is shedding his puppy fur. If it doesn't look any better, I will see the vet on Monday.
    Thanks again.

    HINT:

try to socialize your dachund at a younge age with small animals *to prevent high prey drive*, and other dogs and most importantly small children, other wize it will bark ALOT and become VERY territorial.

Daschunds are so cute! I can't wait until you get some pics! Please tell us what the vet says about shedding his fur like that. Digger had mange once, and he had to be treated right away. Welcome to Pet Talk!

Thanks for everyone's response. I took Peti to the emergency vet and he is ok. I had given him a few baths with adult dog shampoo because he kept getting his poop all over him. The vet said it was too strong and may have cause the reaction. Dumb me! We haven't had a puppy in 10 years! I guess it is like starting all over with the babies again!
