    Whats wrong with my cat?!?

I have a question about my cat. Im not sure "why" she does this but it makes her ugly. (I even tell her its ugly...but like she listens...lol) Anyway.. she has a problem with pulling her fur out....on the back of her legs and her belly. She does it really bad in the summer... not that bad in the winter. I was just wonderin if you all might know why she does this... Has any of yalls cats done this before? What did you do to help it?

It's possible she has allergies. My Peanut does the exact same thing, in the exact same spots, and the vet said she has allergies. They might be worse in the summer because of all the pollen and such in the summer. You might want to take her to the vet to make sure though.

You're welcome! And welcome to Pet Talk! Here's a picture of Peanut showing off one of her spots.

Peanut: Look Mommy. I love licking my leg until all the fur is gone. Do you think I should do the other leg and my tummy too? Mommy: NO!!!

Oh, and did I mention we love pictures here?

Yes, Peanut does this to the back of her front legs too.

It's actually gotten better since she's been on Prednisolone (sp?) which is what the vet gave her for the allergies. Her legs are much better that is, but her tummy is still a little shy of some hair. But that's ok because it shows through nice and pink...and smoochible.

Here's a link for help on posting pictures. Hope it helps and we'll see your kitty soon!

she may have allergies to fleas. Is there an odor? My cat had this, it isn't to bad in the winter most likely because there isn't alot of fleas. Try to deflea her and if she likes to be brushed give her a powder bath ( using goldbond) sprinkle the powder on her and brush her till the powder is gone, at least most of it. Your house may be a little dusty after this but I'd rather have a happy cat then a dusty house.

I think it is best to see a vet , just to be sure about the treatment ! Pulling out fur can have many reasons , even psychological ones !

Good luck !! And , WELCOME TO PETTALK !!!

the goldbond soothes the skin. It's best to take her to the vet I do agree, however the powder baths won't hurt her. good luck and I hope this turns out well for you.

Bastet did the fur pull when I had to move. It was an anxiety thing. The vet told me to spend lots of time with her so she wouldn't get so upset over me going to work. It worked a treat.

This is what I was going to say. She may be stressed. Is your home quiet for her? Does she have a special, quiet place, just for her??

It can just be stress. One of my brother's wife's cats licks his fur off when he gets stressed. Jenn calls him her "poor bald baby" and he looks completely ridiculous, because he's a very long-haired Maine Coon-ish yellow cat, so the bald spots are completely obvious, poor stressed Pippin!

Yes she does have a quit place to run off too....... she is very ppl shy so stress might be the thing. She is fine when its just me but tends to run off when its a lot of movement or really loud. She does have a quit place .... that is my room.....upstairs by itself. O yea n' I did try the gold bond thing I'll see how much it helps....
    Thanx~!
