I have been holding off telling you all because I am so worried about Killian that I didn't want any prayers and well wishes taken away from him, but my sweet little Cassie pigalett pugalett is not doing well at all. She has always had terrible allergies and has always been on special food and has always had to get treatment for allergies. Her allergies have been so bad this whole summer, that she has had non-stop ear infections. She has been on several different types of antibiotics to get rid of the infection but it continues to come back in both ears, and with a vengence. The worse thing happening right now is that these past few weeks, she has developed an inner ear infection, and that is what her major problem is now.
Her head has a permenant tilt to the left. She has been unable to walk up/down stairs, or jump on the couch anymore. She falls often and on her worst days, she has even refused food, which is NOT like her, as she is the piggiest dog I have ever met in my life.
Yesterday Cassie had an endoscopic otoscopy procedure under anasethc, which is the viewing of deep inside the ear canal, and the doctor found something he had never found in his 30 + year career...in Cassie's inner ear, he was unable to see very far because she had caloused masses blocking off the entry way to her inner ear. That explained why the topical ear drops were not doing anything. He tried to get a biopsy of it, but it was so hard and calloused, that he was not able to. Although he hates steroids, he said that that may be the only thing that will get the swelling down in her inner ear. So she is on a very aggressive steroid treatment now, as well as other hopefull cures for her inner ear infection.
In two weeks the doctor is going to check out Cassie's progress and hopefully she will be better, but we are preparing for the worst at this point, in case she remains the same. She is in pain and she can hardly walk at this point without falling over sideways. Her head tilts so much that her equalibrium is off and she is unable to hold herself up. She also has fallen down the two step landing and ever since then, she will not walk down or up stairs.
I am so worried about her. She is such a darling, sweet, delightful dog, and she has not acted like her happy little self in SO long. She has had a really hard summer because of infection after infection.
Please wish Cassie well and send her well wishes. She really needs it now. My poor little Princess Cassendra![]()
