The "all cat toy" channel

Ritz has discovered a new show on her "Wide Screen TV", aka, the patio window.
The recent snow prompted us to fill the bird feeders, one of which is mount for an ear of field corn.

Here is a picture from the screen. Ritz either thinks of this as the "All Cat Toy" channel (or perhaps worse, the Food TV Network )- she is just mesmerized by the birdies!

Thanks! That particular bird, although I'm not familiar with any scientific names (I just love to watch birds)...is a type of woodpecker or "flicka" as they are often called in these parts. There are also the "pileated" woodpeckers here (the ones with really big crests on their head, like "Woody Woodpecker"), but they are not as frequently seen.


This one is a version of the "red headed woodpecker", we have had these in abundance since we live near a forest area. Last spring we watched a pair raise a fledgling---it was so cool. The adult and the youngster would come and park on the deck railing and the adult would get some food, then feed the baby, then they would fly off and come back.

The adult takes a single kernel of corn, flies to a crook of a tree branch, pounds the kernel to small pieces, eats it, then flies back for another kernel.

If I had to work that hard for my food, I might actually win my ongoing battle of the bulge!

Great pics everyone! My kitties have their own version of TV....watching the ferrets through the plexiglass gate attached to the ferret room. Gigi can sit there for hours watching the ferts. I think she's laughing at them too when they come up to the gate and try to dig their way out...something along the lines of nanana boo, I'm out and you're not. That's so what the smirk on her face tells me!

My future F-I-L has a couple bird feeders in his yard. There is a group of beautiful green parrots that feeds there. I love to watch them. I can only imagine what my kitties would do..as it is F-I-L's cat, Lestat stalks them.

I don`t know the scientific bird names either, even though I am a member of our RSPB!! I don`t go out birdwatching and stuff but I do like to feed and watch them. At one time I had a number of feeding stations out back and quite a variety of birds used to visit but sadly, I have had to cut down to a few nut feeders. Mostly because, even though I cleared up the debris every night, I got mice in the garden and the feeders were blamed, so out they went! Funnily enough, the cat population has gradually increased in my corner of the street and although that may solve the mouse problem if I began feeding more, I would just end up providing extra sport for the cats. Between them and the sparrowhawk that comes around every so often I sometimes think I should give up feeding even the nuts. What I do plan to do is to put a feeding staion up in the front garden which is more open and gives the birds more of a chance, well, maybe with the cats but not the hawk!

Back to the post subject, "All Cat Toy" channel, Ebby loves watching too, from both back and front windows, but she loves the back best. (since I took this pic I have begun to tie the net curtains back a bit so she can see better, as maybe you can just about see in my sig pic!)

Great pics. That sure is a beautiful bird. My cats also love to watch birds but not very many of them come around any more.
