Smell!

my dog is 12 almost 13 about 8 months ago he really started to smell everthing my family does dosnt work,, shampoos anythings plz help

What breed of dog is Rini?? Is she short or long coated?? When doggies get older sometimes their coats take on an odor. Does she spend a lot of time outdoors? Sometimes an underlying skin condition, dandruff, may be the cause. Does she get brushed or bathed? Has the vet ever checked her for skin conditions? He or she might be able to recommend a good shampoo for her skin/coat type. Tell us about your Rini! We would love to see a picture of her! And welcome to Pet Talk!!

Thanks for responding, my dogs name is Buster,, my nicknames rini. Buster is a VERY healthy dog(puppy). He loves to confort me and make me smile. Rightnow hes on a few pillows and a blanket on the floor asleep. He dosnt go out doors much only to Pee and poop. he's been with me sense i was 3. but a little backround on him. hes a beagel cockerspaniel mix breed. This past summer we almost had to get rid of him for reason of the landord saying we had to. we had a kitten 2 ( 2 years name angel) we knew that sense she was cute and younge she would be adopted so we let her go. Buster raised her from the second she enetered the house when she was 3 weeks old. Buster made sure she didnt get into much trouble. they would always sleep side by side, then kitten gave him a kind of new enegry, it was great. i knew how much it hurt him to see her go to see she wasent comeing back. some people say he wont remeber. But every time he sees a cat about the size of angel he bark but dosnt chase. i know i went WAY off topic here. But I mean out of all the dogs i'v seen in my life buster been the most sweetest one of all. he loves to listen. right now the pictures i have i dont have a scanner or a digitale camara i will have to use my friends. but hes black with a white strip going down hes chest. sorry fo going way off topic ~~rini~

Buster should be seen by your vet to determine why he is smelling. There could be a health issue causing this.

Sorry Rini about the name mix up It sounds like you love your Buster very much And what a loving friendship he shared with little Angel. I'm sorry he had to lose his little friend Like Candy said, I think the best thing to do would be to have the vet check out Buster. He or she will give you some helpful advice, I'm sure. Please let us know how he's doing, ok?? He's sounds like he's been a very loving best friend to you!!

Beagles ussually have a hound dog smell to them to begin with. But a vet visit would be your best bet. Like said before Sometimes an older dog gets a smell to them. It may be caused by skin problems, ear problems, anal gland problems or mouth problems. Sounds like a nice dog!

I'm suspecting yeast infections in his ears since you said he's a beagle/cocker mix. Can you smell inside his ears and see if that's where the odor is coming from?

I was thinking the same things. Cockers and hounds both have really bad ear problems. Even if there's no infection, sometimes they still smell.....they probably need to be cleaned, and possibly see a vet if it is too bad.
