Cat will not tolerate a collar

Boo HATES collars. I've tried putting one on him twice, and both times have been absolutely disastrous. Even when I put them on quite snugly, he manages to get his jaw caught on it. And I've used the elastic break-a-way kinds. Still...no difference. He hates collars. Any tips??

I had an indoor / outdoor cat who would always get his collar off - I'd find them all over our property. After I read this thread I have decided to not put collars on my cats. My cats stay inside, though.

None of my cats have collars; they stay indoors. If an indoor/outdoor cat (not recommended) can't keep a collar on then it should be microchipped.

How old is Boo ? The younger you start with a collar , the easier they accept it . The very first day Inka was here , I put a collar against fleas on her . She didn't like it , but after a few hours , she forgot all about it !! Both my cats wear a collar with a bell now ; it is easier to know what naughty things they are up to ...

My cat doesn't mind collars acually. As long as they are not bright colors. Once she hocked her collars on a bucs and pulled and it snapped of. It was on of those snapping collars. It was bright red with pink designes on it. I bought her another one that is red with black on it and she has never taken it off. Hum... A fashion cat?

I have tried putting a collar on Emily a couple of times and she has scratched herself raw. As a result I opted not to continue trying. Even though she is an indoor only cat I have had her micro-chipped (just in case she gets adventurous someday )

I think I posted this someplace else, but Rascal will not tolerate a collar. When he was an outdoor cat he "lost" two collars in a day.

When I put them on him he thrashes and acts like I am choking him to death. Much faking stuff goes on!!

I gave up - but he stays indoors now.

In light of the thread that was posted, I am absolutely not going to try to get Boo in a collar again. Far too risky.

i like the idea behind collars......but my cats say "no" to collars also....

We live in an apt and they only go on the balcony. Two of my cats wears collars with their bells on. My big tabby, Toby. doesn't like his collar. I brought him a blue one and everytime he seem to get his jaw stuck and loses all the time so we gave up on that idea. The only reason we wanted a collar fo him is because he gets in the way and this way we know when he is around. I would bother putting a collar because some cats hate it and in time he/she would like it.

I agree with not putting a collar on him, especially since he hates it so much.
I nearly lost my cat Clyde because of a collar. He really hated wearing it, he would drag himself along the ground trying to get the collar off. One day I hear the sound of books falling, so I went to see what was happening. Clyde had tried again to remove his collar, and had got it caught on something, and had nearly hung himself. And this was one of those safety collars too, it didn't break. The only reason I found him was because he was struggling so hard that he knocked over a pile of books.
Now Clyde is "naked" and loving it, he has a microchip in case he ever gets out.
