    Double Canines (Fangs)

I noticed a small amount of blood on Smokey's canvas
toy last night, so I took a look into his mouth. He has lost
one of his puppy canine teeth on his bottom jaw & a new
one has already come in. On the right side I was surprised
to see two fangs (old & new) growing side by side. It looks
really wierd.I pushed around on the old tooth, but it does
not seem to be loose at all. Has anyone's dog
ever had both baby & adult teeth at the same time? I think
I'll call the Vet tomorrow to check this out.

Hi Liz, yes Malone had the exact same thing! I was concerned about it and called the vet, and they said that it was really nothing to worry about. It happens sometimes and they will eventually loosten up. He still has one (he's 7 months old) and I think I'm going to mention it to them again. If you are concerned, you should definitely call the vet just to see what they say. That's what they are there for, and it's peace of mind.

Do you have any recent pics of Moki?? I would love to see some!!

    Cookiebaker,

    Hi !

As for pics, I just dropped off a roll of film today so in a
few days will have some to show. I should have said that
Smokey is 5 mo & 1 week old. I'm glad you knew something
about this. I've not seen it before.Think I will call the vet
tomorrow & see if he want's to look at it, or wait awhile and
see if it comes out by itself. Did Malone's tooth fall out by
    itself? Thanks, Liz.

Oooh goody, can't wait to see those pictures!!

Yes, one of them came out by itself (about 3 weeks ago), but the other one is still hanging in there, and doesn't appear to even be loose. I've talked to the vet 2 times about it, and they just keep telling me not to worry about it, and just to make sure that no junk collects between the old & new one. But it's kinda hard not to worry when it's my baby they are referring to!!

Do you know how long Moki's new tooth has been there?? Because it is possible that it is just running the normal course...the new tooth comes in, and shortly thereafter the old one falls out. Is it on both sides, or just the one??

Sending Moki a virtual doggie biscuit...

It's only on the right lower side of the jaw.The new one
can'nt have been in more than a few days. It's small, but
very visible. What's wierd is that it came in not under the old
one, but growing right next to it. About the pics,
wouldn't you know after I turned in the film, I had at least
three great poses of Moki & Moki with Pumpkin(Youngest
kitty) sitting side by side just looking up at me.

Our puppy traing class was reminded by the instructor
that our dogs are all now old enough to be thinking about
spay/neutering. I can't believe Moki is that old now, he's
still "teething" like crazy. Little Alligator Jaws...

When they spay and neuter, the vets usually check the teeth and pull any baby teeth still left. It's not a huge deal, but it can effect their bite if it goes on too long. My mom's shih tzu, Ritz, had 6 or 7 baby teeth pulled when he was castrated. He didn't seem bothered at all by it.

I am SO curious to see what Moki looks like now. Have you any idea how much he weighs now? I can't wait to see some pictures!

    Leslie,

I was thinking the same thing. If Smokey still has that
baby fang when he gets neutered (2-3 weeks), the Vet
can take it out while he's sedated. For a baby tooth, it
sure looks big to me. I'm going to check Moki's mouth
every day & make sure there's no infection, etc.

Can't wait to show newer pics of Moki...

He's grown taller & longer and I'm sure he's gained
weight, but he doesn't feel that much heavier. He is
such a funny, lovable little guy. Never meets a stranger.
    Hey, maybe he's Irish....

Can't wait to see those pictures either, Liz. How big do you think Moki will be when he is grown? Sounds like he is fitting in to the household real well.

Can't wait to see the new pics too! I bet he has changed!

Nebo had double teeth on the top and the bottom. They were tight also. The first one that came out was on the top, while wrestling with Lady. The others came out at different times, I didn't find any of them...but they *did* come out. He has all of his new teeth now.

My sisters dog, Sydney, has some of the double teeth problems right now. She's almost 6 months old. She's getting spayed soon, so I'll have to mention it to her to have the vet pull them out if possible.

Lady also had some double teeth going on....I think it must be pretty common.

    Hey guys,

It seems I worried for nothing. The Tooth is gone today.
Must have been in the last 24 hrs. I never found it either.

    Moki's "smile" is much improved...
