    Lurcher Dogs in Ireland

This is an interesting article on the breed called Lurchers
and the rescue work going on in the U. S. and other parts
of the world to rescue them from dreadful lives.

    http://www.ameurogreyhoundalliance.org/lurchers.html

It's a report from a rescue group in Ireland. Just a FYI.

Carina is stunning!! I guess she's here in the States awaiting adoption in Massachusetts.

I went to the site for the rescue here in the States and she's not there, so hopefully she was adopted. I emailed them and asked. I will update if anyone is interested.

    Oh Mugsy,

Thank you, thank you for posting a picture of Carina !!!

Isn't she a Beauty. I meant to p.s. to tell everyone to
check out the story of her rescue & how great she looks
now. I believe she was transferred to Mass.U.S.A.

Carina reminds me of Hope, the dog that DOGRESQ
adopted and brought back to good health. Remember
    Hope? Thanks again Molly.

    Sue,

I knew you would never forget Hope !!! When you first
started the thread about her rescue in Colorado &for the
next weeks ,as time went bye, our hearts were all touched
by Hope's ups and downs during the struggle by DOGRESQ
to save her. The change in Hope from beginning photos &
her happy ending were nothing short of a miracle.

I miss hearing from Julie (DOGRESQ) and often wonder
how she is doing these days. Liz.

You know that shelter never answered me on the status of Carina...HOW RUDE!!

If and when I hear from them , I'll let you know.

I miss hearing from Julie too. I'm betting that she's just too swamped to even think about posting on here.

I called the shelter in Massachusetts and she said that Carina is in a great home that spoils her unmercifully. She gave us the address to another site that people on here might enjoy

    www.irishanimals.com

Mike has found a couple on there that he's fallen in love with. She also told me to check back, because they do get them in there.

The story of the lurcher is. When it was illegal in Ireland for commoners to own Greyhounds, they would take the Greyhound and breed it with a darker colored breed and usually longer hair, to get the lurcher. It got its name from the fact that the people would walk the dog along the boundary of the noble families looking for game and the dog would "lurch" into the surrounding woods to get prey for the new master.

    Molly,

Thanks for posting the link to the new rescue site

I just had a peek, as I'm starting to fix supper now,
but looks like lots of great stories and information on
this site. I'll be back for more reading for sure. Liz.
