VIRGINIA BEACH, VA: 76 cats in seriousl danger of being taken and put down
I received this set of messages from the King George Aniimal Rescue League in King George, VA (http://www.kgarl.org/), whose mailing list I'm on. To summarize, the poster and his wife have been working with feral and abandoned cats (76 cats at this point) in a trailer park. Now all the cats are being threatened with euthanasia by the local animal control, unless they can find homes for them.
If you can help in any way, even if by passing this information on to anyone else you know who might be able to, please do so! THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL!

Hi Joy, I have set up a face book page for our adoptable cats. Animal control is making us find homes for all our cats by April 30th, or they will seize our perfectly healthy and fully adoptable cats. The page is called “VB kitties need homes now” please pass this on to all who can help.
We have currently 76. They are not budging on the extension. We are going to have a hard time getting them in homes before then. If I could get some of the rescues to take 3 or 4 here or there, that seems like the only way this is going to happen. They definitely have a vendetta out for us.

To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter because I have always felt that I was able to handle this problem, but now realize that the problem is so much bigger than I had anticipated. My house is full of cats that I never wanted, but felt obligated to do something about when most others wouldn’t. Now our health, financial state, mental state and ultimately the future of these cats are in jeopardy. We are being forced into accepting the fact that feral cats are better off being euthanized rather than relocated, and it is not our place to intervene with law enforcement or the public. I have stood by my wife and supported her efforts and felt her pain and frustration, but that means nothing anymore knowing that all of her dedication and effort is all a waste.
Several years ago my wife received word in our community that there was a trailer park where cats were roaming free in a very large number and that animal control had been called in to trap them because people were taking matters into their own hands and poisoning them and shooting them with bow and arrow.
My wife has always had a great love for all animals and will do anything within her power to make sure they are cared for. She set out on a journey to talk to the residents in this trailer park, and was mostly met with resistance, and was ultimately banned from the property. The bottom line here is: the people who live in this trailer park were causing the problem by abandoning the cats, yet they just wanted them gone, and complained when their un-neutered cats started reproducing like crazy.
This act of concern and caring has led to a world of constant hell. I have learned that the act of caring for animals is viewed by most of society as an un-natural act and that doing so labels you as “that crazy person”. The people who don’t think you’re crazy want you to help them with a cat problem in their neighborhoods, and so on, and so on.
We currently spend over $100 a day out of pocket on food and supplies and have zero donations coming in. We have uncovered several areas in our community that have large numbers of abandon cats, and the only solution seems to be trapping and killing these cats. Virginia Beach Animal Control has told us in a matter of words that the cats we have in our possession will be in jeopardy if we continue to try and intervene with these “feral cats”.
Why are we being crucified for sacrificing all that we are as humans to save the lives of innocent animals who were abandoned by the same type of people who are tell us that what we are doing is wrong?
We are out of options, and don’t know where to turn.
We need help: -finding homes for our adoptable cats.
-finding people who would take in feral cats on their property for barn cats.
-funding for food, supplies, vet bills, vaccinations, and spay/neuter.
-volunteers to transport animals, help with adoptions etc.
Please pass this letter on to as many people who will read it. Anyone who is willing and able to help me please email at [email protected]
I meant," said Ipslore bitterly, "what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?"
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.
