Buddy got a time out!

I have read on here that others have put their pets in a time out. I do not know what gets into Buddy sometimes. It was a calm day, all kitties seemed happy and took their turns on my lap. Earlier this evening, Buddy decided he wanted the chair that Mama cat was sleeping on so he intimidated her off just with his stare. He slept there for a couple hours and she chose a blanket I put on the floor for her.

When Buddy woke up he got off the chair and left the room. All was quiet. All of a sudden I see her crouch down and I hear a growl. Next thing I hear is her screaming at the top of her lungs while Buddy tries to wrestle her. I practically jumped out of my chair!

I scolded him and he ran to the bedroom where I promptly put something in front of the cat door so he could not come out for awhile. I went back about 15 minutes later and he was curled up on the bed. I tried to pet him and he gave me the cold paw - LOL.

All is calm now. I am so glad they do not do this type of thing when I am trying to sleep at night!

Poor Mama cat. This sounds like a typical day in my home. One of the cats is always terrorizing or trying to intimidate another one. My girls are the worst at the growling and screaming thing. They can both be very big drama queens. All it takes is for sweet Alani or Blaze to get too close to them. All they want to do is to play with their sisters. Sometimes they also don't get along when I'm trying to sleep.This is another reason why I try to feed them before I go to bed so that their tummies are full so they'll sleep better. I've tried some time outs with Storm and they usually don't work with him. Good luck with Buddy.

I guess it worked. There have been no more issues since I let Buddy out of the bedroom. He even sat and watched Mama eat before I gave him some fresh dry food as well. I told him he was a good boy. Mama is now back sleeping in the chair that Buddy kicked her out of. At the moment, I am not sure where my orange little devil is.

I do time-outs every now and then. I usually toss them (the two Abys usually) out on to the screened in porch and shut down the cat door to the porch. It happens maybe twice a year. If I am painting, especially. They are horrible with ladders, paint cans, brushes etc.

Lucy, my black barn cat, knows when I say "No" that I mean it. When I take Prue the dog outside I often tell Lucy "NO LUCY" and she runs the opposite direction knowing it is not her turn to go outside with the dog. She doesn't always come in when called, so if it is dark out, she doesn't get to go with us.

I time-out the cats when they start beating up on each other. This usually means closing doors to rooms to let them chill a bit. It doesn't happen that often fortunately.

Cats have very good memories and elect to ignore us when it doesn't fit in their schedule.

I can go years between dragging out the laser pointer with the chain on it, and if and when it comes out, the two Abys coming running when they hear THAT chain noise. I bet they play with it once every five years. I find that amazing. Same goes with opening cans. They haven't had canned food in years and each and every time I get the can opener out, they come running....just in case!!

A time out is good for them and for us. Cats can get out of control sometimes. Mine get really goofy if there is a program on the TV with the sounds of wild animals or cats in distress. They start fighting with each other.... it's the oddest thing.

Yes, I agree...selective listening! Buddy is an angel 98% of the time. I was trying to figure out what could have caused his action(s). I do know that Mama was completely minding her own business and sleeping away when he started the dispute.

I really do think sometimes he just gets bored.

I have trouble getting my three cats to get along. Ever since Tigger died, Alison would rather be alone. Peaches is herself, and poor Ashes wants to have buddies but every time he gets too close to ether Alison or Peaches, he gets the growling,hissing, and smacking. Poor guy. Thankfully if they give space then everything is ok and I have seen them nap close to each other sometimes.

I have to admit I was chuckling reading this report!

Tommy and Mandy do NOT get along. They can go a few hours, and then he has to taunt her, which results in the screaming you described. Since she already lives in one bedroom, I just shoo him out and close the door so he can't return. The door is closed at night so I don't have to worry. And if I am leaving for any length of time during the day I close it too. Dad wouldn't have a clue what to do with them.

I have to give Spunky some play time with me every day or he will annoy Sam. He wants to play and Sam doesn't.
