Biting!!

Boo is a very sweet, very good little guy. However, Boo likes to bite on occassion. It's very painful and very annoying. He is not declawed. How do you get them to stop???

Our Jackson does nibble a little at a hand, but not very often. If he bites, we say "ouch", and most times he stops. Good luck !!

Stop doesn't cut it. Sometimes he goes on a rampage. The Boo needs to learn...but how? I've said no, clapped, ignored him, etc. Nothing works!!

I freeze, and if they keep biting I push my finger farther into their mouth, forcing them to open wide. It can be very slobbery but it does work.. I hope that helps some

How about a water bottle?? That worked for me. Everytime your kitty bites, (yeah, I know, when he does, the bottle is never around, right??) squirt him in the butt or body (never in the face), yell no very loudly and walk away. He SHOULD get the hint eventually.

My foster Boo-Boo does the same thing. It could also be an indication of abuse via kicking. I'm not sure of my foster's history so that could very well be the problem.

I also recommend the water bottle. I also use it when they attack objects (like a new chair or so).

Little kitty Inka does this all the time too ... You should see the scin of my right hand
Shouting a loud "NO !!" usually helps here . I think she does this because she is getting new teeth ... Isn't this exactly what human babies do , chewing on everything when they get their first teeth ???

Of course , as her teeth are a bit larger now , and VERY sharp , it is no fun anymore .... ! Please Inka dear , mind mommy's silky scin ....

How old is Boo? I had a cat (coincidentally, named Boo too!) and from the time I got him at 3 months old, until he was almost a year, he was a slasher. I am serious, my arms from hands to elbows were torn to ribbons.

He finally outgrew it, but he had a little "attack" trigger, and I had to be very careful not to trip it. The trigger was touching his legs or stomach. Petting him on the top of the head or back was OK - sometimes he would try and get me then, but I was in a better position to move my hands away.

The water bottle helps a lot...just don't spray him in the face. He'll get the message quick.

Boo is almost a year old. Just a month or two off. He was much worse when he was very little, but he has eased off. The most effective thing so far is looking him in the eye and saying (somewhat loudly) NO! I just wish he wouldn't even try to, though. Will contemplate the water bottle option.

I have a stunning tortie foster with Tux bib and white paw who's declawed. She used to be a terrible biter but I've been working with her so she can be adopted. She was basically neglected for the first 7 years of her life, and needed to be re-socialized. When Spliffy gets bitey I say NO and walk away.
