    bacon slipped some disks :(

Bacon my 10 year old boston terrier randomly started yelping one night we had planned on taking him to the vet the next morning, in the morning when i woke up (bacon and little bits sleep in my room overnight) bacon wasnt even moving and when he did try to get up he would yelp and it was just horriable so i carried him out to their pillow in the living room and went off to school during first period i texted my mom and asked her if she had called the vet yet she said yes that he had an appointment for 10:30 i believe it was? so i asked her to come dismiss me and all of that so when i got home he was somewhat moving around but mostly just laying on his pillow, when it was time to go we took him to the vet (getting him into the car, now that was a project) we got to the vets office and of course being him he acted completley normal, insane i know, but we went in and waited and waited and waited for about an hour (someones dog was having puppies! ) but once the vet seen him she did all of he normal checked his heart took his temp all of that then she reccomended xrays which we did, turns out he slipped 3 disks in his back, one more than the other two u can see it poping out of his spine when you look at him, now, she gave him some type of steroid shot and pills to stop the inflammation hes gonna be on those for the next 3 weeks, but already showing lots of improvment moving around trying to play but we dont let him run around too much or play with little bits, also the vet said to keep the two dogs seperated, thats been a struggle because theyve been together since they were months old, so bacon has been sleeping in my parents room and little bits in mine, in the living room there are two pillows on opposite sides of the room for each of them its insane, but like i said hes showing lots of improvments the vet is hoping that since hes an older dog that she wont have to reccomend the corrective back surgery, so she thinks the pills will help tremendiously, hes recovering well, but the pills give him quite the little appetite, lol. but were supposed to give him his normal portions, which u feel so bad when he finishes and just looks at you like "gimme more" lol. ill keep everyone updated on him.

    UPDATE

Wish I could say it's good but it's not Bacon was doing better for a while there but then suddenly just got worse, on Friday morning on his way outside he faceplanted into the cement floor in the "dining room" (his face is ok) but even to get him to eat we either have to bring the food to him, or spend an hour trying to get him up, as of now we are looking into the back surgery but the vet said there's no guarantee it will actually help nd is quite costly. They are also saying they arnt sure if it's a good idea because he's going to be 10, they are also recommending putting him down... I disagree...

    I'll keep everyone updated

Raise his dish up to about the height of his nose -- with slipped disks, bending forward and down to reach his food is gonna HURT.

Use some boards or bricks, just make sure it is stable so it doesn't all topple over onto his front feet, lol.

Marlin had slipped disks high up in the neck area 3 years back. It took 6 weeks of "bed rest" for him to recover, so early days yet for Bacon. Keep him still / calm. I was told not to let Marlin even do the stairs in and out to my back yard for the first 4 weeks, I was lifting him in and out.

This is one of my worst fears for a dog, I've seen it happen so much - especially in younger dogs.

I am so sorry Bacon has to deal with this. I hope Bacon continues to progress. When it comes to deciding what to do next, only you know your dog and the right decision. Much luck and gentle hugs to bacon!

I'm sorry to read about Bacon.

My niece's beagle, Gizmo, had a similar situation. Actually, it sounds exactly like Bacon's. The steroids and shots helped for a while, but the problem was still there. He looked like a sad, desperate little boy in agony.

Gizmo is about 8, btw, and underwent surgery about 6 months ago. The difference in him is amazing. Being a human who's had 2 spine surgeries, I could really relate to Gizmo. He's so happy and healthy.

Yes, it was expensive, but their surgeon told them about a payment plan for animals. I know these times are hard for everyone, (she has 2 kids and is fostering 2) but she and her hubby deecided that Gizzy is part of the family, still young and playful and needed help. To see him in agony was awful.

    I hope your Bacon recovers.
