What a wonderful rescue story to start my day. Thathank goodness for people like Mona's family. Best of luck to Mona's dad and his fight with lymphoma. I'm sure that Mona is doing her part keeping his spirits up with that beautiful smiley face. Congrats sweet girl on being dotd

Good morning and a very happy Dog of the Day to you, beautiful Mona! What a wonderful way to start the day for me and my Labbie Star, seeing such a deserving doggie being honored here today!
I had tears welling up in my eyes as I read your Mommy’s moving, most touching tribute to her beautiful girl, looking into those loving eyes, at your heart melting photos, especially the one of you posing beside your proud Daddy! How blessed your family is, having a precious pup such as you in their lives, Mona. What a happy, loved and adventure filled life you have been blessed with, Mona; every Labbie’s dream life come true, and if any pup can convert someone into a dog lover, it’s a Labbie!

As your wise Mommy has said, so often our rescues ending up saving us as much as we save them, and we can’t thank your family enough for not only choosing rescue, but choosing to rescue one least likely to find a forever home. Having worked in Lab/Retriver rescue for years, I know sadly, and too well, the undeserved stigma you ebony girls and boys have to overcome. But how well their kindness and compassion have been rewarded, for they couldn’t have hoped for a more loving, more devoted furkid than you, Mona. I’m so very sorry to hear that your Daddy is facing such a serious health challenge, and I hope and pray for a full recovery for him. Hopefully, with the help of his doctors; with your Mommy and you, his faithful and devoted best friend by his side, showering him with your unconditional love and quiet comfort, he will come through trying time with flying colors! I can't help but believe that it wa more than coincidence that you found your family to your family, being given a very special job by a higher power!

I’m so happy your Mommy nominated you, Mona, so that we might share in the love your family holds in their heart for you, and pay tribute to all that you mean to them! I wish for you and them all, your Mommy and Daddy and kitty pals, a very special Dog of the Day celebration, and many, many more wonderful years together! Lots of love, hugs and kisse, woofs and wags to you on your day of honor, precious Mona, from me and Star! I hope and pray with all my might that your Daddy is doing well, that seeing you being honored here today puts a big smile on his face!

Mona, what a fantastic dog you are! I am so glad your human adopted you from the shelter, also knowing in advance of "Black Dog Syndrome" and determined to bring home a black beauty such as yourself. I love that you and your humans get to go to the beach, and eat at restaurants together. That sounds so fun! I am glad you are there to help your human through his illness, I bet it is good that he has his very own therapy dog, always there to brighten his day with your loving dog-itude. Congrats on being Dog of the Day, you deserve it sweetie! Robin from Kansas

What a beautiful story and what a beautiful girl you are, Mona. I know that daddy's girl will help him through the rough times. I hope your whole family, cats and all, have many more happy loving years together. Wish I could give you a hug, but you'll have to settle for my congratulations on being our DOTD.

Mona, your write up brought tears to my eyes. You are such a sweetie and it is obvious that you and your pawrents have rescued eachother. Your story reminded me of this poem so I searched for the old thread and here it is:

I also wanted to share this organization with Mona's family. They help black cats and dogs find homes because what you heard is true...they are less likely to be adopted. So glad you chose to save your beautiful girl

    Sweet Mona!

Mona, what a loving and pretty girl you are. I know that big black dogs are the last to be adopted which I cannot understand because from my experience, they are the best!! I loved reading your story. It sounds like you are nothing but a joy for your mommy and daddy and I know that you will always be there for them as they go through a tough road ahead. No matter what happens, it's always nice to have a big black dog to hug at the end of the day. I have 2 of them and couldn't love them more.

    Congratulations on being todays DOTD!

Hello Mona, You certainly sound as if you are a sweet loyal loving dog... and pretty too in your lovely black coat. Your mom did a great job in the writeup telling how she choose you & now how you're helping your daddy while he is fighting cancer. Just having a sweet girl such as you will make him feel better & lift his spirits. It is obvious that you have a wonderful home & are loved so much & I'm sure you return that love. My prayers are with you & your family. Congrats on being DOTD! Kay in NC, Tues Jan 11

    Hello Mona

What a great story, and what a great dog! She is very cute with her perky ears framing her cute face! All the best to your husband, and I agree Mona can help.

    Mona says "Thanks everyone!"

Hi, this is Mona's mom, and we are grateful for all the nice replies, good thoughts and prayers coming our way from all the kind folk and animal-lovers here. We're glad ya'll enjoy reading about Mona as much as we enjoy having her in our family. All our pets were either rescues or strays, it's our philosophy to adopt and we've never been disappointed by our choices. Also, we were honored to have one our precious kitties, Annabelle, featured as COTD on Nov. 24, 2010. She & Mona are special friends, so if you like Mona and wanna see her best cat-buddy, please check out Annabelle.

Mona's "Dad" is doing well so far with the chemo., but he has a long way to go. It's Stage 2, and the outlook looks pretty good, at least that's what a lot of cancer-survivors have shared from their experiences. Thanks to those who have expressed concern and thanks for the kind thoughts. The love of the pets surely does help in so many ways; we believe they are God's gifts and very special friends. Blessings to all!

    Hi Mona,

You look like a twin to my girl Maggie. She is almost as beautiful as you

have now. Congratulations on being our very special DOG OF THE DAY.
Lots of hugs & kisses going out to you on your special day.
