Getting In The Holiday Spirit ?

The so-called Black Friday event marks the beginning of the Christmas
shopping season here and elsewhere around the country. Indy also has it's
Circle Of Lights festival that evening where the downtown area know as the
Circle is festooned with lights in the shape of a tree & lit up. It's a big deal
to a lots of people & the little kids love it.

So along comes these yahoos and their guns to a statement about all
things dear to their little hearts. Things that go BOOM.

Maybe they
want to start a new Christmas tradition.

Liz, I just can't see the point of people showing off their guns like that - it's really sick!! Even if people are allowed to have them! In Denmark and most other civilized countries, people would be arrested for doing that. I hope this is not going to be a tradition!

I have never understood why gun owners feel the need to display (brandish) their weapons in public. My opinion is that these people are emotionally and intellectually powerless and resort to force and public displays to prove to themselves that they have "the power."

I have a metaphor or two to apply but those comments are not for public consumption. Not very nice either.

But it doesn't make sense to me. Sounds like a bunch of "woodchucks" as we call them....... I guess all you can hope is that no one you know or associate with would do such a thing.

If the state voted for that right, and they are not breaking a law, then there isn't much one can do about it. Move to another state?

I don't know why people feel they have to own a gun! If I had it my way, there would be limited gun owing, at best. Oh well. I am glad I have friends and family that feel the same way. I feel safe hanging out with them and being at their homes. I know one friend who hunts but keeps his guns locked up at all times, except when hunting with them.

I think I would be terrified if I saw someone with a gun at a public event. What is the need of a gun there?

I have to agree that it seems to me that these "cowboys" are over compensating for some...ummmm...."short comings"

You know when one of them gets nailed by a cop for brandishing a weapon, all hell will break loose. Happy Holidays indeed!

Sure, but that doesn't mean folks need to bring their guns to a holiday event! Just because they have the right to do it, doesn't mean it is in good taste!

Here you have no idea who is carrying, we have the Right to carry and we do. We open carry and we carry concealed. Why do we do it? Because we can, we are a free people.

The truly powerful and empowered not only know when and how to use their power, but also know not to rub it in everyone's faces.

Yeah, living in America is like being part of one really large extended family. You love them and at times are proud of them, but there are times when they drive you nuts.

I guess Im missing something in this conversation.

People carrying firearms is a normal everyday occurrence, its not something out of the ordinary. I do it, my neighbors do it, my coworkers do it.

yeah it's the guys with guns that you can't see that are the problem. I'm not saying you should walk through town with a shotgun, but a handgun in a holster doesn't bother me at all. Guns are like pitbulls, not everybody who has one is a thug that's up to no good.

That may come to a screeching halt soon. There was a plan to set off a bomb at a Christmas tree lighting over the weekend in Oregon. Luckily, the authorities got wind of it and set up a sting and arrested the guy. He was a Samoli teen.
