    Math Problem #1

I haven't posted in a while (sorry about that). The Willow Oak crew are all doing fine. Bonnie finally succumbed to her seizures. I miss her terribly, but I still have 12 dogs and 14 cats remaining!

Patrice is the newest addition -- a black and tan, very tiny applehead chihuahua that I found roaming the streets of downtown Corinth. I tried, but no one would claim her.

In the mean time I have a math problem for anyone who likes to solve math problems!

    This is it:

How long does it take a 1 mile-long train, traveling at the rate of 1 MPH to go through a 1 mile-long tunnel?

Bonnie. It is still very difficult for me to look at her picture.

I wouldn't even board that train. Maths is my worst nightmare.

2 hours for the last car to leave the tunnel.

Is the train already moving at 1 mph or starting from a stop at the tunnel entrance?
    I have a HUGE SIG!!!!

I agree, and blue, if the train was starting from a dead stop, there's no way we could know, as we'd need to know the rate the train could accelerate, or even more difficult, the number of engines, their pulling power and the weight of the cars.

The question said it was traveling at the rate of 1 mph - so it was already moving.

I intended to say "miles per second;" nonetheless, the numerical part of the answer would be the same.

    And the winner is:

Congratulations! Job well done! It would take a 1-mile long train moving at the already rate of 1 mile per hour, exactly 1 hour to completely move into a tunnel that is 1 mile long. Then another hour would be required for that train to completely exit the tunnel.

The correct answer is 2 hours!

I would never ride such a train. I am too impatient.

Oh I'm sorry to read about your Bonnie. She looked as though she was a really sweet pooch. I'm sure she's resting now at the Bridge. My RB peke-a-poo began having seizures after she gave birth but meds kept her from having any more and she lived to the ripe old age of 18 1/2. Your Bonnie will always be w/you.

As for the math question: math makes my brain itch.
    Blessings,
    Mary
