My next door neighbour has two pig dogs that he raised from pups.
Tiger and Honey have now grown quite large, and Rob has taken them both out a couple of times the last month, hunting wild pigs.
Yesterday while building a new fence between our properties, I noticed that Tiger didn't come out of his kennel to his daily investigation of the fence building process.
Rob came out a little while later and told me that Tiger had a boar tusk shoved into his chest the day before during a pig hunt.
Tiger evidently chased and cornered a huge wild boar, and grabbed his ear, the boar put his head between Tigers front legs and shoved upwards so that his tusk speared Tiger in the chest.....he then ran to find something like a tree to hold Tiger up against so that he could rip the dog apart. Honey then raced up and grabbed the pig on the other ear, and the two of them managed to get the pig onto the ground. By this time, Rob arrived on his motor bike and shot the pig dead. A particularly large boar he was telling me....stood nearly three feet high at the collar.
I think if he ever invites me to go along on a hunt with him, I'll quietly resign and stay at home with my own dogs. There ain't no way I'd ever subject my dogs to that.
Tiger nearly bled to death on the return home trip, and Rob had to continually stop to apply pressure bandages to the hole. He was out cleaning his ute today.....the back tray was covered in Tigers blood.
It's a shame tho.....what some people do with their dogs.
