    Lump from shots?

My sister has a black female schnauzer pup (Sydney). Apparently she decided to give the puppy her shots by herself instead of taking her to the vet. And now she has this huge lump thing on the side of her neck. It's not attached to the muscle...if that makes any sense.......I mean you can move it around under the skin with your fingers. It feels like a cyst. Is this normal? Do you think it will just go away?

I took Nebo to the vet for his shots, and he has had no problems. It didn't seem to bother him at all afterwards. Lady either.

Oh, I forgot to mention....she gave her the shots last Monday. I just felt the lump a few minutes ago. I think it's a little larger in diameter then a quarter.

Is the lump in the exact place where she gave the shots?

According to her it is......but would you normally give them shots there? It's on the side of the neck. I swear my vet did it more around the shoulders. Of course.....this is my sister who did the shots.......

I work as a vet Tech Once a week and if she gave the shot in the neck that might have caused the lump because we don't give shots in the neck. It's always given in the rump or shoulder area.

I would say to bring the dog to vet to be sure it's not an infection or allergic reaction because the different types of vaccines are given in different parts of the body. Some are given in the muscle others under the skin. And the Bordetella(Kennel cough) in the nose... Thats it she might have given that shot under the skin rather then in the nostrils.

Do you Know which ones she gave?

Sorry to hear that Sydney has a bump. Is your sister qualified to give a shot? I just don't understand why she would have adminisrered the shots herself.

We used to always give Angus & Keisha their shots (until you couldn't get rabies shots w/o a prescription from the vet), and we gave them in the neck/shoulder area. We never had a problem with any bumps or anything.

When Deisel had his rabies shot, he did have a lump for about a week. Of course I had it checked out and the vet said it was from the rabies shot...could that maybe be it?
