I came home after a miserable day of trapping (caught nothing except a bad attitude). When I got home, Maya Linn was staggering around as if her back legs weren't working. I watched her briefly and she couldn't even get up on the couch.
I ran her up to the vet. Dr. Berard examined her and watch her walk around the examining room. I told him I thought it was neurological. He said I was right. She had absolutely no response to the eye exam and her ears were clear, to rule out an inner ear infection which would cause her imbalance. He said that with a brain disease, it can come on very quickly. I asked him if she might be having a stroke or an aneurysm. It's possible but we won't know unless we do a CT scan or MRI, which can cost hundreds of dollars that I just don't have. It's breaking my heart.
Now here's my dilemma. They are keeping her overnight, doing blood work and hydrating her (the little heffer gained a half pound since the last time she was there a couple of weeks ago for a URI. Remember that fiasco where their vet tech used my cat carrier WITH Maya Linn in it to break up a dog fight???
Now I'm thinking that her being banged around the carrier with great force could've caused this brain injury. Believe me, I'm going to bring it up when I speak with them tomorrow. I have the exact date it occurred and they cannot tell me it didn't happen.
The vet didn't seem too optimistic but said to wait till tomorrow and see if she's any better.
The thought of losing another one of my cats (she was Mollie Rose's snuggle buddy) has me in tears.
So if you guys can say a prayer and possibly light a candle for Maya, I would so greatly appreciated.
