Hmm, that link was to a story about Kate, of Jon and Kate Plus 8. ??

I have heard of the corpse flower, the smell is horrendous! It often figures in murder mystery stories (the English cozy type).

The link led to a series of short news vids....I scrolled on the RHS, but the story about the flower was gone.

    Pic here:

The huge Indonesian corpse flower (titan arum) blooms once every six years, and attracts insects by releasing chemicals including putrescine and cadaverine. It’s a pretty spectacular trick: not only does the broad petal that wraps the pollen-bearing spadix have the ruddy maroon color of rotting flesh, the plant generates temperatures equivalent to the temperature of the human body, volatilizing its scent to attract even more insects.

Wierd indeed. But anything that means less bugs in the world, I'm good with.

Look up the scientific name for it!

    Amorphophallus titanum.

I always laugh at the news reports because they don't mention it!

If you knew even a tiny bit of Latin you'll get a giggle out of the scientific name!

Every so often one blooms, so is a noteworthy event.

    A big smelly WHAT?

I love the crowds that go to specifically see the plant, the interviews are always the best when they talk to the kid who is holding his nose.
