    Keep your paper shredders unplugged!!!!

This can happen to cats too! Please keep your paper shredders unplugged when not in use. We are responsible for our pets lives!!!!!!!!

The owners of a mixed breed dog named Diamond found that out the hard way last week, when their 8-year-old dog licked their’s, only to have her tongue pulled into the sharp blades.

“She had licked a paper shredder in the house that was set on automatic,” Dr. Marc Wosar, of Miami Veterinary Specialists, told TV station WPLG.

Fortunately, Diamond’s owners were home and responded quickly. They disconnected the head of the shredder, carefully taking it and the dog whose tongue it held to the animal hospital.

“We anesthetized her first, then reversed the shredder off the tongue and assessed the damage,” said Wosar. “There were a lot of lacerations to the tongue as well as a lot of bite wounds. In her panic, she’d also bitten her tongue.”

It took more than a 100 stitches to repair Diamond’s tongue. A portion that was too severely damaged had to be removed, but doctors expect her to make a full recovery.

“She just won’t have a perfectly round tongue. She’ll have a little nick in it,” said Wosar.

Good. Me too! I don't think the shredder has to be big to be able to pull a dog or cat's tongue into it if they are licking the top and it triggers the automatic blades. I don't even feel safe turning it to "off" vs. "automatic". I just unplug it when not in use.

I already have a 1/10 scale Lamborghini with a pearl white and black cat hair pattern. Missy decided that the up turned body would be a great place too take a nap, but the paint was not quite dry. The model was for my wife’s birthday. I had to rush to find another body and get it finnished on time. There is a picture of the finnished car on my site at www.jsgill.net

I don't even like my babies in the same room where I am using it, those things scare me to death.

I work with a lot of former vet techs and more than one has seen the cat vs. shredder results, usually a mangled tail.

You're welcome! Thankfully, we will never have to hear about the dogs and cats that were spared this avoidable tragedy
