How do you Travel with a Fish??

Hey, I was just wondering, for any of you that have Bettas, how do you travel with them? I mean they are in this bowl, and I'm afraid that if the car hits a bump, then water will spill out. I really like to take my Kelsey on vacations, but I don't know how to do it! What do you suggest?

What about putting him in a ziploc bag of water from his tank for the car ride part? That's how we've transported fish home - in a plastic bag. When we moved, we took half the water out of the tank, and left the fish in that, but it was a 15-gallon tank, more room and higher sides than tanks I've seen bettas in!

Oh, I'd have to say that I wouldn't try to travel with a fish unless it is a necessity. Seems like they could be too badly affected by taking them in and out of their home too often, plus it is hard to control the temperature changes.

Just my two cents worth. But if the occasion arises that you must take the fish, Karen's idea is probably the right one.

when we have to transport guy from Pennsylvnia to California or guy to anywhere at that, we put him in a tupperwear bowl, a large one at that as guy is 8 inches or so long. Also there is a whole on the top of the tupperwear bowl for a air tub thing to go in and mix up the water. We then plug that into a plug that works on batteries. It seems to do, but I wouldn't take my fish on vaction they stress easily. I am thinking about takeing my rats up to my grams. It will be a 4 hour car ride but I will be holding them most of the time or they will be in a crate, but then again, thats rats.

First I went to Sonic (or Arby's or some kind of fast-food joint) and ordered an extra large WATER. Came home, dumped the water out, rinsed out the cup, put tank water 'n fishies in, replaced the lid and we were good to go!

Surprisingly, it worked well. All of my fish survived the 6 hr drive home!

My rats come on vacations with me a lot, but I have never heard of fish travels. That is pretty cool. I have no clue if would work or not. Good luck!!

What do you use to transpiort your rats? I was thinking if my dog chewy didn't go on vaction with us they could travel in the van in there small travel cgae then they could be moved to a crate when we get there. The only problem is are my vactions are always 4 or more hours away. Think they woudl eb ok? My hamster Sage traveled with me to Pittsburg (4 hours) and did great! Infact she loved the ride. My rats love to ride in the van, its there second fav place ot be, they always sleeping there.

We I transported my fish from Cincinnati to Findlay (about 160 miles) I put them in a large, bucket with a lid with about 1 gallon of the water from their tank. I did the same when I moved from Findlay to Sylvania and then to Toledo. Depsite all the moves, they are still swimming strong at 5+ years!

i had 2 transport my fish a few times.you could find a lid to put on the bowl and hold the bowl 2 make sure it doesnt move around,or you could put them in a tank and put the tank in a secure box.thats what i did.

We are looking at transporting our fish with us when we move next month. Our local aquarium puts fish with water in a plastic bag, then fills the remainder of the bag with pure oxygen and seals the bag. Provides enough oxygen for 24 hours. Then pops the bag into a foam esky so they don't feel the bumps during travel.

We asked about it and the staff thought we must be some high-end connoisseurs of the piscean variety. They cracked up laughing when we told them we only had three goldfish!!!

Actually, even my friends are laughing. Does that mean we're weird?

putting fish in a bag is a good & a fairly safe way to transport them. BUT if u just us regular air, they can only stay in the bag for about 30 mins, & it need to be dark (the dark causes less stress).
if ur just going on a short trip, get a friend to care for the fish, it'll be much easier & safer on the fish
