As you all on PT know I lost my beloved Jack in March. This hit me extremely hard and 2008 was a long sad lonely year. Missing Jack's companionship was very hard for me. So I had been thinking about perhaps getting another tom cat from the same rescue that I adopted Jack & Sunny from. I found it hard going there, and felt butterflies in my stomach whilst I was there, looking at all the lovely cats that needed homes. I wanted an adult cat, no matter the age, just a soft sweet soul that needs love. I originally asked about a white tom, but he had been very dominant in his previous home and was a bully, he was actually covered in scars! A real bruiser, but I simply couldn't put Sunny at risk.
So I said what about this black cat, is it male. He was, he was called Kris. He is around 6 months old and came from a feral mother, but had been socialised in a foster home so he would be ready to be rehomed. He had had a few enquiries but people were put off because he came from a feral mother (I assume they weren't really knowledgable about what that was) and also his colour.
So we opened the door to check him out, he was full of excitement and just wanted to play, he let me pick him up though he was a little jumpy.
Well on Thursday I picked him up from the rescue and brought him home.
So I would like you all to meet Xavier!
He really is a little star, a wonderful little boy, a real cuddler, very affectionate and playful. He's a gorgeous little cat. He's eating fine, used his litter trays and just plays constantly. He's got on my lap for cuddles and also laid on his back with his paws in the air completely relaxed on me, so I think he's settled in already! It's demanding keeping up with him, but I am so happy that I chose such a sweet cat who I think is going to blossom into a big teddy bear when he's full grown.
Here he is:
He's behind me isn't he!
I wish he'd go away!
He is fascinated by Sunny and tries to follow her around. She's being very grumpy about the whole affair and hissing at him. But he's not put off by this at all and wherever she is he tries to be too. I'm sure she'll come around eventually whe she's used to him!
Although I wanted an older cat originally, I think he would have been there a while if I hadn't chosen him, so I'm glad I did. One of the other cats who had been there a year was all black, but a female otherwise I would've enquired about her. So black cats don't seem popular with the public, so I'm glad that I have him
Whoever socialised him did a wonderful job as he is so soft you'd never know he came from a feral background.
