    Internet Explorer security alert

Users of the world's most common web browser have been advised to switch to a rival until a serious security flaw has been fixed.

The flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer could allow criminals to take control of people's computers and steal their passwords, internet experts say.

Microsoft is investigating the problem and preparing an emergency software patch to resolve it, it says.

Internet Explorer is used by the vast majority of the world's computer users.

"Microsoft is continuing its investigation of public reports of attacks against a new vulnerability in Internet Explorer," said the firm in a security advisory alert about the flaw.

Microsoft says it has detected attacks against version seven of the browser - its most widely used edition.

But the company warned that other versions were also potentially vulnerable.

As many as 10,000 websites have been compromised since last week to take advantage of the security flow, said antivirus software maker Trend Micro.

The websites have been mostly serving up programs that steal computer game passwords, but the flaw could be "adopted by more financially motivated criminals", a Trend Micro security researcher said on Monday.

I also saw this on TV this morning. My son said if I felt uncomfortable using IE, to install Firefox or Chrome, which I did. He has used Firefox for years with no problems, and hates IE. Maybe I'll end up staying with Firefox even after IE fixes their problem.

I said the same thing...I use Firefox unless a site REALLY needs IE and usually if it's picky enough that IE emulation in Firefox won't handle it I avoid it.

Opera is a pretty ok browser too but my favorite is Firefox.

I used to use firefox on my desktop. Never installed it on my laptop. I did it tonight but I'm having trouble with it. It won't open any websites.

I cant use IE, I use Linux. There is a way, but I would not want IE on my computer.

I'm not a fan of IE anymore, I now use Google Chrome and I LOVE it. It's so easy and very secure & safe. Everything runs fast and I'm happy with it.
You're the one sure thing I've found so you better stick around...

They had a "error" in their licensing agreement in Google Chrome, saying that everything you type is property of Google. That created quite a uproar.
