    Nostradamus 2012

Did anyone see/DVR this? It was on Sunday night on the History channel. It had to do with the apparent congruence of a number of prophecies from around the world suggesting that something catastrophic might happen on Dec. 12, 2012.

I should have stuck in a poll. What is everyone's opinion on prophecies and the like? I am extremely skeptical; however, a lot of this made me go, "hmm". I'm not exactly planning on cashing out my 401(k), however.

Moff tipped me off to the show in this thread. Post 18.

I did see it & was fascinated by the whole thing. The predictions made
seem entirely possible. Pretty scary stuff.

I only saw bits and pieces of it. I'm hoping that they'll rerun it.

Want to hear something freaky I just heard on Fox news yesterday? Ok, I'll tell you anyway:

Since Christmas there have been over 500 earthquakes in and around the Yellowstone national park area. Seems that area is part of a super volcano that erupts every 64,000 years. Guess when it last erupted? Yep, 64,000 years ago.

They say if that blows it will distroy most of the middle of the US.

Could it be working up to blow in 2012? I don't know!
No matter what anyone does, someone some where will be offended some how!!!!

I remember hearing the imminent and dire prophecies of Nostradamus since I was in grade school ... and that was a long time ago.

IMO, the "prophecies" are so very vague that a great many things can be read into them. They can be interpretted to suit any doom and gloom philosophy one wants to see.
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam

"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle

"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien

In my opinion, things happen when they want to and us mortals have no power to stop it. Worry only leads to stress...and stress related illnesses! I say sit back, have a beer and live life as you need to live it without worrying if the world will end. If it does, what can you do?

Tis far better to die on your feet than to live on your knees

If anything catastrophic happens on that day, I'll have one heck of a 64th birthday to celebrate! I think a lot of people read too much into these predictions.

  10. If someone is a "prophet" my fist question is..."how much money have the made on the stock market?"

Okay...it is like the Kennedy/Lincoln thing...you can find many similarities if you look for them...and ignore the non-similar.

Exactly WHO was around 64,000 years ago? (And no Blue...I do not have a link to prove it...) Was it 63,000 years ago maybe? That would be a big difference to us... while a small difference relatively. Or 63,500...who knows?

2000 was going to be the end of the world as we know it. People were stocking water, food and ...guns! Ho hum...so now it is 2012.

I remember the Y2K thing, alot of people were in a panic thinking that all the worlds computers would crash, and our economy would crash, and the world as we know it would stop. Hmmm, we're still here, nothing bad happened, cept maybe some digital things said 1900 instead of 2000 but no big deal.

I even have a stuffed Y2K bug sitting on my desk I got just for the occasion!

You can get one on ebay apparently. This one is just like mine.

This is more or less my opinion of the Nostradamus prophecies too. They are so terribly vague that they can be made to fit many situations, and you would only know that they had come true in retrospect.

The world was supposed to end many times in the seventies and nineties according to the interpreters of Nostradamus, but so far so good!

Anyone can say there will be an earthquake on such and such a day and chances are somewhere on the globe there will be one. Same with a tornado, flood, mudslide, plane crash. These things happen every day. Thousands of people die each year in car accidents, boating accidents, motorcycle etc. Different groups have predicted the end of the world for thousands of years and yet here we still are AND what's more we have the same problems we had one thousand, two thousand or six thousand years ago. Money, in-laws, children, cancer, common cold, flu, jealousy, greed, hunger, hate, lust, wanting power or control over others. Not much has changed really except now we live in homes instead of caves, we still eat meat, worry about our kids, die to young, love, hate, cry, and laugh and pray. We still kill over land, over our respected God or Gods, cheat on our husbands and wives, beat our children. Mankind can fly to the moon but as for morals, kindness, common goodness, forgivness, love, helping others we are NO better then we were 50 or 100 years ago or even 400 years ago. Sad sad sad.
