Well I got a voice mail message from my 8 year old niece today saying they had rescued a kitten and that I needed to call her for the story. I called back but my sister-in-law's phone went dead. I just got back from their house where I got the story. (They live just behind my house on a different road.) My brother was heading out in his truck to work and saw this baby kitten in the road not moving. A tractor/bushhog had just gone by mowing the sides of the road and must have gone right over it. He thought the kitten was dead. Then he stopped and thought it was blind. Its eyes were all crusted shut. But he moved his head to follow my brother's movements. So he picked him up and drove back to the house. My sister-in-law said he blew the horn in the driveway and asked if this thing could be saved. She wasn't sure what it was but when she realized it was a kitten she said it couldn't be saved if he ran it over with the truck. He told her what happend. She immediately got the kids in the van and took it to the vet's office. This little guy weighs only half a pound. He literally had hay stuck in his skin from the force of the mower. The tech at the vet was afraid his eye had ruptured. She started cleaning scabs and goop started oozing. But finally she got it all cleaned out and they could see the eyeball. He was covered in fleas and starving. He attacked her hand because she had a piece of a pillpocket in it. He can eat crunchies, so he doesn't need to be bottle fed at least. They are soaking the crunchies some first though. I walked over with my big carrier, so I didn't have my camera with me. It was in my car. I told them I would be back tomorrow with the camera. They were trying to pick a name. My brother says he is calling him Puppy. That's because my niece has been begging for a puppy for ages! He said now she has her puppy. (The rest of them will give it a proper first name and Puppy will be his middle name.) Pictures tomorrow.
