    Bitter Apple Spray question

Okay, I have a little devil/darling dachshund who chews the corners of sofa pillows when I'm not home. My dad is watching him at this time (when I'm at work), and he just can't keep up with the puppy energy.

Has anyone here had success with Bitter Apple spray? I'm just curious.

    Thanks.

... and here's a photo of the little cutie pie I do so love my Henry (and his big sis Bodea).

Tikeya would also get naughty with chewing thing while I was away.. I used bitter apple spray on all my stuffed animals, and it kept her away.. BUT the crappy thing is it can be really strong stuff... I shouldn't have used it on my stuffies because they really bothered my allergies after I sprayed them.. Its like I could smell and taste the bitter apple spray when I went close to my stuffies...

My RB dog Sami liked the bitter apple spray. She'd chew on the back of my wicker furniture. Sprayed it with the bitter apple. She'd lick and chew it more. The only thing that deterred her was tabasco sauce. A wee dab did the trick.

Yeah, some dogs actually like it. So just try it and see if it works. I put Fooey, which is the same as bitter apple, on Zoee's quiet spot (tag cover) because Taggart kept pulling it off. It didn't work.
Just try that and other items like it, until you find something that will work
Our goal in life should be - to be as good a person as our dog thinks we are.

Thank you for the siggy, Michelle!

Just a thought -- for cats, to keep them from scratching furniture, I mix equal parts white vinegar and water, and spray that on. The cats don't like, and it is mild enough that humans don't notice it.

I haven't any idea what a dog thinks of white vinegar, but may be worth a try!

Thanks everyone, good points. I shall try something mildish first. The vinegar/water thing sounds good to me. I thought of tobasco sauce but then that would stain badly methinks.

The two incredibly destructive chewers I had were both rescue dogs, thankfully, but bitter apple had no effect whatsoever on them.
