    Wish me luck

At one of the shelters I volunteer at has had an older retreiver mix small about 30 lbs. there for about 9 months. Well space is limited this time of year and it was his turn for euth. He is such a sweetie already trained (his owner passed away). They let me have him for free so I am nursing him back to health, he has kennel cough (no big deal) and is skinny as he was frightened and did not eat much there, so we are feeding him great food. He also has a slight irritation to his feet & ears possible allergies (so again good food. I took him to the vet this am and it looks good! My best friends mom lost her dog a few months ago and is interested in him! She will give him a great home. She is talking it over with her husband and will let me know in a couple days!!

Oh, that is great! I am so glad that you were able to save him from that horrible fate. He sounds awfully skinny for a retriever mix. I am sure that a good diet can take care of that really quick What about the irritations on his paws? Did the vet diagnose that?

It is also encouraging to hear that you already have a good home for him to go to. Hope this senior lives out the rest of his life in the lap of luxury.

He is about 7-9 yrs. so i just say 8. He is pretty skinny but he is very short. Looks just like a golden retreiver but is short and has a slim muzzle (maybe whippet mix or beagle?) his hair is slightly shorter on the body than gets longer on the tail, neck, ears and legs. His feet are red like he has been licking them. The vet says either allergies or boredom (which very well could be from being bored in that little cage). I am feeding him a good diet and been watching to see if he licks them, not too often though I cleaned him very well and it seems to have gotten a tiny tiny bit better. If it does not improve within the next couple weeks we will get him tested for allergies.

YEAH!! He has a home. Her husband & her talked things over and are ready for another dog. She wants me to keep him for a few days while she gets supplies & things also to make sure he continues to improve.

Oh boy is he getting better everyday! Since I got him on friday he is more active, eating better, he is even starting to play with Nanook (my 13 yr shep mix) It is so cute to see 2 seniors playing together. I have been keeping him clean and giving & applying meds. his ears have improved (I had to pluck them a little bit to help them heal faster lots of retriever hair there that was matted a little) his feet are getting slightly better (maybe he had an allergic to the cleaning product we use on the floor at the shelter?), the cough has lessened and he is not as shy.

Any ideas for a name for this lucky guy? The owner died and the dog had no health record, was unliscensed & no tags from anywhere in the area. Unfortanatly This man only had one son who ended up surrendering the dog and he was unsure of the dogs name, I think the previous owner had amnesia? The dog had a few names, bubba, bub, harley & bud. He does not listen well to any of them, at the shelter they kept the name Harley but he does not seem to like it. I thought about Chance but that is so common.

Both my friends mom and I are stummped for a name, I thought about Chance but that is soo common. I also thought about Jersey only cause it looks like he is wearing one his fur is wavy in the shape of a vest. Any ideas anyone?

His new parents decided on calling him "Lucky Jersey" jersey is his "real" name. My friends father is a big sports fan & he wears his "lucky shirt" while watching games so that combines that with him being a lucky dog and one that looks like he is wearing a jersey, I think it fits him perfect!!!!
Saturday is the big day for him to move into his new home although we are going over there tonight to slowly introduce him into his new surrounding! Oh it is going to break my heart as my most favorite, oldest dog Nanook loves him as he is the only dog he plays with. He can no longer play with our other 2 dogs as they are too young and rambuctious for him. This is the first tiem in 2 years he has really had a good playmate. But hey he is only moving to the next town and they will continue to see each other fairly often! And he is going to a loving, caring forever home!!!
