A 4 am trip to the vet...

Poor Sadie had a rough night last night. We went to bed about 11pm and she woke me up around 12:45 licking. At first I didn't think too much of it, she has allergies and licks her pads a lot. usually I tell her enough and she quits. Last night, no luck. So I got up, washed her paws, gave her some benadryll. Her eye looked a little red, which also sometimes happens with her allergies, so I rinsed her eye out, put some antibiotic in it, quick trip outside for potty and and we were off to bed. (Now 1:15 am) Course both girls were restless so I gve them 15 min to settle down. No luck. Still licking, est. So I put Cincy in her kennel and Sadie in the kitchen and went to bed. Course I couldn't sleep. I was listening for every noise, sure something would be wrong with one of them. Finally at 2 am I got up, freed them and went to the living room to read a book. About 2:45 Sadie was whing and when I asked her what she wanted to went to the spare bedroom. i asked her if she was ready for bed and she jumped up on it. Instead of going back to my own room and bothering Ralph, I layed down with erha dn soon Cincy hopped up to (me and 2 55+ dog in a twin bed!) We slpet about an hour and a half when she start licking and straching at her face. I took her out the litchen to look, and both her eyes were almost swollen shut and her muzzle was all swollen. We ended up at the emergency vet at 4:45 am and Sadie got a steroid shot. We got home and she finally was able to get some sleep! Today her eyes look 100% better and her muzzle is slowly returning to normal size. I can't figure out if she got bit, or got into something she is allergic too or what, but so far things are loooking better

has anyone seen a bee sting or something cause this before?

    hornet

My cat Graemer was stung by a hornet and his leg swelled so badly that the Vet thought he had broken his leg. After Xrays etc., and $285, they determined it to be a hornet/bee sting. I did see hornets on my porch.

Keep us posted on your pup!

Wow. What a scarey thing to have happen. Poor Sadie &
poor you. Glad Sadie is feeling better today. Did the E-Vet
suggest you follow up with a visit to Sadie's regular vet?
It would be good to know in future if she's severely allergic
to bee/wasp stings. Give her a hug from me please & I hope
    everyone sleeps well tonight.

Glad she is better. That was a scare! I carry a Bee sting (shot) kit with me as I'm allergic to bee's. Heard that they are available for dogs with severe reactions so you might want to check with your vet. For some people the reaction to bee's ect. get worse each time. Don't mean to scare you - but I can see you would like to be prepared if possible.

Wow!! Sounds like our house!! I'm glad Sadie is ok. You're a better person than I am...when Max was in the hospital, I called in sick for the day (which didn't thrill my principal a lot).

So glad Sadie is feeling better. Poor Baby! I know how awful allergies can be for animals. Hope she continues to improve with no return of the problem. Hope you get some sleep too.

Happy to hear Sadie is doing well after that scare. Did she by any chance have a shot recently? The reason why I ask is because one of my dogs had a very similar incident and I also thought it was caused by an insect bite. When I took her to the vet he said it was an allegic reaction to one of the annual shots she had the day before. Needless to say, she never that that same vaccine again.

yeah, those after hours trips are a bummer on the wallet but neccessary. Luckily (knock on wood) I haven't had to do that yet.
