Each Mourn In Their Own Way

I was so touched by this CNN video. A giant sea turtle had been killed
and it's mate came to visit her memorial site. He stayed for quite a while.

How very touching that was! Poor little guy, losing his mate like that. So nice to see that he came to, in some respect, say goodbye. "Each mourn in their own way" indeed! May she rest in peace.

So touching. How someone could murder such a peaceful and beautiful animal is just heartbreaking. it's amazing the bond that they have with each other, even after death.

    RIP Honeygirl.

Turtles are wonderful, kind animals and Honey Girl certainly didn't deserve her fate. I learned long ago that turles, like othe species, mate for life (some PEOPLE could take notice of that fact). Honey Girl's mate I'm sure is beside himself and cannot understand what happened to his true love.

The video has me in tears. There's a place in hell for whoever did this to such a sweet animal.

    RIP Honey Girl.

(((((HUGS)))) to her beloved Kuhina. May your heart mend over time, my friend.

That just really breaks my heart, poor baby. It's a really amazing story though. R.I.P Honey Girl, and to Kuhina, I'm sorry this happened to you, poor guy. Do you think he could have possibly witnessed the killing?

A few years ago, the plant Carl worked at for 26 years closed its doors and moved all of its operations to Melbourne, Florida. They gave him and a lot of the engineers an option to move down there. So we went down for a look/see. It was in May or early June and we were put up in a beach front motel. After arriving we found out that it was the season that the sea turtles come up on the beach and lay their eggs. So we bought a couple of flash lights and went "turtle" hunting late in the evening. You can tell where a turtle has come ashore by the trail she leaves in the sand. They crawl up into the grassy area well away from where most swimmers go. The use their fins to dig a rather deep hole and then they lay their eggs (pretty good sized eggs at that) cover them up and then slowly returns to the ocean. It is amazing to see. Of course, you are asked not to bother them while they are doing this and they seem to know if you stand quietly watching that you aren't there to do any harm. I even got some pictures with my camera of the eggs after she laid them. Ever since then I have absolutely been in love with sea turtles. These turtles come back year after year after year to lay their eggs on the same beaches. I would have loved to have been there when the eggs hatched. That has to be an amazing thing to watch those little turtles race to the ocean.

So Liz, you touched a real soft place in my heart. Those turtles seem so peaceful, so harmless, so amazing. I cannot imagine why anyone would kill one. It does not really shock me to see the male coming up to her memorial although I guess I am surprised he was able to find it. We really don't give other life credit for the feelings they obviously have! Thanks for sharing this article.

I believe that absolutely. Human ego wants to claim only we have feelings
but it is not true at all.

I envy you guys being able to be so close to the breeding area & being
able to observe these giants up close. Awesome creatures.

Yet there are people on this earth that think animals are "dumb animals" and think they have no feelings.
