Jessie, I live in Georgia and less than an hour away from Athens. But where do I start? I can not pull them all out. If there is anyone that would be interested, I may be able to pull the out and foster or transport.

Their stories broken my heart. What is it going to take to make all shelters no kill? Would Nusring homes start ptd their patients when they got full?

Jessilily, the Athens, GA shelter is one of the most crowded I have heard about in Georgia. There are a lot of people, who are constantly trying to rescue dogs from there, and get them to either rescue groups in other parts of the country or to forever homes. But each one can only take so many. A lot of the dogs I have transported for All Pets Rescue have come from that shelter, so I know many have been saved.

The rural south in the US has a huge stray cat and dog population. We are fortunate that there are rescue groups and loving individuals who work hard to save as many as possible. But until the South adopts some licensing requirements and limitations on how many pets people can have, I don't think a lot of folks will ever catch on to the spay and neuter bandwagon. It makes me incredibly sad. Here, locally, I read that our county shelter (Greenville County, SC) takes in more animals than any other county shelter in this state. Approximately 25,000 cats and dogs are brought in by Animal Control or owner turn ins each year, and of that 25,000, 16,000 are euthanized. That is a horrible and sad statistic.

I simply can't look at the link, but please know that there are wonderful people out there who are constantly trying to place these precious animals.

    Dear Jessica,

The German Shepherd rescue groups are trying to save dogs from death constantly, especially in GA. There are some other shelters there that always have gorgeous dogs that are killed just because their owners got tired of that dog, they shed too much or because they just don't care anymore after owing them for 10 years. It is a truly sad situation. The GSD bb has even started their own "rescue and transport" where the board members are pulling dogs, fostering and adopting themselves, usually on a last minuted death call. I have seen dogs lost in a technicality (crying about one particular one last week). These dogs are adopted or taken into foster without being thoroughly evaluated. One was adopted by a bb member but had to to pts on the table as they were doing a spay, she was full of cancer (HOW could her owners have dumped her like that!!!!!! ) I could go on and on, but I won't. Please believe me, Jessica, that there are many loving people out there saving lives of those on death row, but YOU CAN"T SAVE THEM ALL. It is a harsh reality, but it is reality. I still have trouble dealing with it myself. There are many happy endings, too and we get to see how the dog blossoms because of kind hearts of the bb members. BUT, just as one is snatched from the gas chamber, three more that they couldn't save are pts. It is a neverending story. And it is heartwrenching!! Thank you for your concern, Jessica. Maybe prayers will help!

    Sorry this is so long.

    Thank you very much everyone.
I know how sad and tragic the reality is...
But I wonīt stop trying because of that.
Please if you canīt adopt or foster yourself, please spread this.
I know that there are so many more dogs then the dogs at this shelter that are killed EVERYDAY, but when you inform people about different urgent sitautions, that helps alot, and more animals are being saved.
That is why I post about these babies now, so that those that feel they can help THESE babies have the chance to even know about them.
I will post other urgents later, so that the people that can help those, maybe will.
    Thank you all very much.

    Hi,

I just wanted to tell everyone the bad news...
many of the poor babies, didnīt make it, they are now listed as "not availible" (means they are not alive), and some are not listed at all anymore.
But it dosenīt matter how much it hurts, their are new babies now that has taken the places from the dogs that now are in doggie-heaven, and they need us all now!
I hope the same thing wonīt happend to all of them.
Please try to find adopters or foster homes for these poor dogs if you can.
    Thank you very much.

    Sudilar,
you are so right, and I havenīt gived up, I wonīt.
It is just getting very urgent for the poor babies.
I know that they allows out of state adoptions, if that could help...
just please donīt send them by air, they have been trough enough and putting them in that cage, isnīt right, they will panic and might never be the same again.
Is there anyone that can help?
Please look at the most urgent dogs first, they have very little time, they can be put to sleep any day now.
